The City of Miami Springs is considering allowing an employer sponsored hotel along Canal Street.  Okay.  The City says it’s not a hotel.  It’s being called “Employee Sponsored Housing Accommodations” for an aviation company. Here’s why we call it an employee sponsored hotel.  Employees will use the housing as temporary place to sleep / live while traveling to and out of Miami.  Employees will come and go and rotate based on their work schedule. The City of Miami Springs held a workshop on Wednesday with the City’s Planning Firm, Calvin Giordano and Associates regarding recommendations for the Gateway Overlay District.  The stated goal of the update was to provide clarity of purpose, clarity of language, improve organization, update terminology, improve developer incentives, strengthen the city’s position in the development approval process. You may have recently noticed the new metal facade being added to the downtown development. As we had stated back in October 2023, the plans that were approved by the Miami Springs City Council called for the installation of Alucobond or equivalent metal facade.   However, we had received a notice from a representative for the developer that they had received waivers from the City of Miami Springs. Jimmy John’s, the national sub and sandwich shop, just opened a new location at Hook Square in Miami Springs. The Jimmy John’s also features a drive through.  Obviously, that adds a tremendous convenience factor during lunchtime or on your way home.  It’s also the only drive through restaurant in downtown Miami Springs.
