Are the power requirements of top tier videocards just going to keep increasing?

I still remember when AGP videocards had one molex connector for power and now looking at my 4090 and its octopus cabling I wonder if this will be the future of videocards or worse. The air cooling solution for my 4090 is similarly outrageous -- I had to cut out the HDD cage on my case just to get the 4090 to fit and it's not the largest 4090 manufactured today ..read more

So I have an upcoming "big purchase". Need a new laptop, kinda killed my last one. Since I don't travel as much for work and in general game a lot less I decided to go with truly small and light this time. I do have a little 15.6" QLED USBC monitor I can bring with me if I travel and actually want more screen realestate. My main goal is reliability, portability, and future proofing. I'm looking at 13.3-14" sizing as a must. Been on and off this for a while, and kind of decided on two... Read more ..read more

AMD roadmap for X3D parts?

Does AMD have a roadmap for just their X3D parts? I really like how gaming performant they are for the amount of power they use. I'd be particularly interested if they're going to increase the V-cache sizes in their next gen or move it to the IOD chiplet ..read more

Instabilty with Intel 13th/14th flagship cpus in some games (unreal engine+)

As the titles states, I was having a weird crashing issue on my pc (13900k/4090) in fortnite. I could play a round, maybe two and hard CTD. It happens often enough I won't really play it (past month or so). Apparently this effects other titles, and right this second, I domt recall if it was a specific engine or what. To that end, Intel says they are looking into it... but in the meantime mobo vendors including asus and msi with Gigabyte have added a feature to use the Intel stock specs... Read more ..read more

What videocard upgrade strategy do most peeps use?

I used to wait until I could get a videocard that was at least 100% faster just so I'd see some real gains in perf. but that was back when videocards were still relatively cheap from a price/performance ratio. I waited nearly 5 years to upgrade my 1080ti but only because its performance deficits were really noticeable in Metro: Exodus and I had no RT acceleration. I'm not considering upgrading anything ATM because of financial constraints, but what are some good videocard upgrade strats... Read more ..read more

Running a Ryzen 9 7900x cpu that pulls 180 watts at full load and a RX 6950xt that pulls 365 watts at full load. Right now I have a 480mm x 60mm Radiator with push/pull fan configuration. Right now the cpu is the only thing on the loop. Wanting to add the gpu to the loop. Is this enough cooling? Both cpu and gpu are never loaded 100% at the same time. During gaming the cpu is only about 25% load ..read more

Is "GPU Rail Voltage" an indicator of 12V reliability on a PSU?

Hi guys. I recently did some tests with my 4090 with Corsair HX1200 & Corsair RM850x. The nice thing about those PSUs is that they use the same cable kit, so going back and forth between those PSUs is very easy without disconnecting anything from the actual components. One difference I noticed between the two PSUs is by how much the GPU Rail Voltage varies. Running the same stress test loop, the two PSUs dropped to slightly different minimal values under load. The Corsair RM850x varied... Read more ..read more
