I'm following a video by The Organic Chemistry Tutor on YT. I'm confused as to why I can't cancel out the 7xy/5xy to become 7/5.

And a second question, I'm also a little confused why both the top and bottom are both times by xy as opposed to x for the numerator and y for the denominator.
Here's where I tried that and got an incorrect answer: https://imgur.com/a/iIi2OIZ
My guess as to why I was something to do with the 7 plus in the numerator and 5 minus in the denominator.
Happy to clarify if this is hard to understand. Thank you in adva ..read more

We're learning permutations and combinations at school and I'm familar with the form nCr and nPr, but ive encountered questions in the textbook where it involvings proofs; but im more concerned about variations of the forms where it would be like nP(r-1) or nC(r-1); what does r-1 mean? what does it mean and how is it any different to just r? is it also possible to have cases where there are variations of 'n' so like n-2?

right now, I'm studying Gilbert's 18.06sc lin_alg (pls chill, i have passed a pure mathematical linear algebra course last semester. I know the concepts algebraically)
I'm passed through the first 1/3 of the course, meaning i know the things below :
Elimination
Solving Ax=b
4 fundamental subspaces
inverse matrices
when solving the first exam, i came across this question :
picture
there's 3 things i don't understand here :
How does column 2 show the relationship between col1 and col2?
Why is column 3 all zeros?
How do we know if a column doesn't contain a pivot, then it must be dependent ..read more

I manage the marketing for an e-commerce website that sells vouchers for various services, including activities, spas, food and beverages, and automotive services. Each month, I allocate a budget for marketing activities based on the offers available at the time. However, I encounter several challenges that make budget optimization difficult:
New offers are often introduced after the budget has been phased out.
Existing offers sometimes undergo changes, such as price adjustments or modifications in the terms and conditions.
Some offers are discontinued unexpectedly during the month.

Suppose ? is a diagonal matrix with distinct entries on the diagonal and ?
is a matrix of the same size as ?. Show that ??= ?? if and only if ? is a
