Why Do I Visualize Concepts So Intensely? Seeking Advice for Better Learning, Can anyone relate?

I often feel a strong urge to understand things deeply, my mind wont rest until i visualize the concept properly or understand everything involved in it. For example, when I learn something like 3 times 3 equals 9, I don't just accept it as a fact. Instead, I feel the need to really see why it works that way. So, I might imagine it like this: I create two groups of letters, like {a, b, c} and {d, e, f}. Then, I pair each letter from one group with each letter from the other: ad, ae, af, bd, be, bf, cd, ce, cf. I notice there are nine pairs altogether, which helps me understand why 3 times 3 e ..read more

Best way to relearn math/old coursework

Question in title. I graduated right before the pandemic with a degree in math and a pretty good GPA. I definitely felt some imposter syndrome back in college, but not to the degree of what I'm experiencing now. I'm currently working in a SWE adjacent field. Since then, I feel like my quantitative abilities have atrophied tremendously and I have developed somewhat of an anxiety when it comes to dealing with math of any kind. I feel like I've become so caught up with learning and keeping up with new technologies from my job that I've pretty much forgotten a good majority of what I learned duri ..read more

Retake Calc 1 or just go for it in calc 2?

Hello, this past spring semester I took Calc 1 and got a D. I am not really sure why I did so bad. I did all the HW problems, worksheets and really tried to understand the fundamentals in each topic instead of just memorizing them. With this being said, I am planning to take Calc 2 this summer as an online 5 week course. Would it be better to retake calc 1 this summer and take calc 2 later or should I just study the topics I struggled with the most in calc 1 and move on to calc 2? If I take calc 2 this summer it would be the only class I would be taking which means I could just focus on it. W ..read more

I absolutely love learning math and harder maths. As a sophomore student in the us I’ve taken geometry, algebra 1 and about to finish algebra 2 and taking finite math this coming school year. I have not finished a single math class above a 80 in my math career. My algebra 2 teacher told me do not take pre calculus and calculus so now I’m in a pickle submitted by /u/External_Row_1214 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Screenshot: https://imgur.com/a/EuNIla3.png When I do the math I get something like (2/5)x-4... I really don't understand this and if I don't understand, I can't teach my husband. I've watched all of the khan academy videos and I got 3/4 questions right for this quiz correct the first time around but now I am retaking it to make sure I understand and I can't get past this first question. EDIT: I guess I am confused where the parantheses come from. Cause I got this one and it is parantheses, too. f(x)= -6x-7 f-1(x)=(-1/6)(x+7) I don't get why it isn't (-1/6)x+7/6 submitted by /u/DudeThatsErin ..read more

hello, i am trying to reverse engineer a formula. For context (im using this site): https://www.selflessclothes.com/blog/sustainability-calculator/?material=COTTON&percentage=100 100% cotton They scored it: 0.9 Here is their scoring framework Then a weighted formula is used to compute the rating. Rating = 50% Raw Materials + 25% Certifications + 15% End-of-life Potential + 10% Brand Authority Finally, the value is normalized to a 5 point system for more intuitive visualization (the leaf indicator). https://www.selflessclothes.com/blog/product-rating#:\~:text=Then%20a%20weighted,the%20lea ..read more
