Once again, the U.S. is entering a presidential campaign with some voters expressing curiosity about independent and minor-party candidates. None of those candidates has a real shot at victory in November, but they might influence the race and politics beyond the election.
There was a time about a century ago when minor-party and independent candidates were a prominent feature of the U.S. political system. While mostly limi ..read more

As a businessman, he’s a failure. As a human being, he’s a failure.He doesn’t seem to have a kind bone in his body. He’s a liar. A cheat. A sexual abuser. And a coward.
However, he does possess a quality enabling him to press people’s emotional buttons. He understands anger. He understands being left out. He understands the fragility of people’s feelings. He understands Fear.
He has used that understanding to manipulate various groups of people to his advantage. Many in middle class America. The very wealthy. And most importantly, the media.
Let’s face it, if it weren’t for Donald Trump, we wo ..read more

Army Tech. 5th Grade Joe Pinder Jr., Medal of Honor recipient.
With the 80th anniversary of D-Day — the “Battle of Normandy” — coming up in a little more than a month, it is only fitting that the Medal of Honor recipient recognized in this week’s DoD “Medal of Honor Monday” is one of the heroes who participated in “the greatest amphibious operation ever undertaken.”*
June 6, 1944, was the day when more than 150,000 allied troops from 13 countries stormed the beaches of Normandy marking the beginning of the end of World War II.

Teens say ‘for you’ algorithms get them right.

Social media apps regularly present teens with algorithmically selected content often described as “for you,” suggesting, by implication, that the curated content is not just “for you” but also “about you” – a mirror reflecting important signals about the person you are.
All users of social media are exposed to these signals, but researchers understand that teens are at an especially malleable stage in the formation of personal identity. Scholars have begun to ..read more

Oh, yes political times have changed and each day they seemingly change more, and not always for the best.
Yet, in this latest installment of “Hey, Let’s Shatter Another Norm!” we do see a glimmer of hope.
Somehow South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem felt it would somehow strengthen her personal and political branding if in a new memoir she recounted how she shot an “untrainable” puppy because a)the 14 month old happy puppy wouldn’t take to the training and b)she hated the dog. W-r-o-n-g.
Noem has reportedly been high on the former President Donald Trump’s prospective Vice President list. But now so ..read more

The campaign that Donald J. Trump is running in 2024 is a stark departure from 2016. It’s not just that he’s eight years older, chronologically. It’s the transformation in his rhetoric.
In the Sunday New York Times magazine, Charles Homans details what he’s learned after attending “seven Trump rallies in seven states since October.”
When I got home from Mar-a-Lago [on Super Tuesday], I pulled up a video of him from Super Tuesday 2016, addressing his supporters in the same ballroom under similar circumstances. I was stunned by how different the man on the screen was from the one I had just see ..read more

Last month, Donald Trump took an axe to the Republican National Committee (RNC), at least indirectly.
Trump’s daughter-in-law Lara Trump is co-chair, serving with N.C. attorney Michael Whatley, chair. Whatley was an active member of Trump’s army of lawyers who tried to overturn the 2020 election.
Irony alert: they hired Christina Bobb to serve as the RNC counsel for “election integrity.”
Bobb is one of the 18 indicted in Arizona for their participation in the 2020 “Big Lie” fake elector scheme. Bobb was involved in “elector recruitment” in the seven states that Joe Biden won and Trump targeted ..read more
