When you think of the bobber style of custom motorcycle, performance is usually not front of mind, with minimalist styling generally being front and centre. But the original ‘bob-job’ bikes drew their inspiration from AMA Class C racing, where only limited modifications were allowed, and stripping off the front fender, ditching all the chrome and removing extra weight was the only thing allowed to… Source ..read more

Last weekend, if you could have been anywhere on earth, then Austin, Texas was the place to be. Ok, maybe it’s just because we are motorcycle mad, but being able to attend both the MotoGP at the Circuit of the Americas and the legendary Handbuilt Motorcycle show sounds like heaven on earth to me. It was a milestone event, with Handbuilt celebrating its tenth edition as title sponsor BMW Motorrad… Source ..read more

When we received an invite to the Australian launch of the new Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 in the Victorian High Country, we thought we’d send someone who has done more miles on an adventure bike than anyone else we know. Our mate Henry Crew holds the world record as the youngest person to circumnavigate the world on a motorcycle – so we think he was more than qualified for the job. Source ..read more

The story of Royal Enfield and the nation of India is one of the most storied in all of motorcycle history. Now a company owned and operated out of Chennai, the original outfit was a sewing needle supplier, who shifted to motorcycle production 123 years ago in the UK. But when India gained independence, the Bullet model not only served the new country’s army, it became the motorcycle that moved a… Source ..read more

The vast bulk of custom motorcycles we feature on these pages are carefully conceived, meticulously designed and then executed with surgeon-like accuracy to produce a result that is incredibly close to the original drawings. It’s a great approach, but it certainly isn’t the only one and the machine before you helps to prove the point. It was only ever supposed to be a cheap way of having some fun… Source ..read more

Fifteen years ago I bought a ’70s Honda CB750 ‘barn find’ for $200, it even came with a Haynes manual and a box of spares. But sadly those days are over, and classic motorcycles have only soared in price and desirability. So, for some, the idea of paying a fortune only to cut that bike up to build a custom doesn’t make a lot of sense. Don’t worry, it always will to us, but there is an alternative. Source ..read more

The phrase, ‘It was a simpler time’ is really only one you can use in hindsight and yet, in creating our future it is so often the past that we yearn for, and which provides us with a great deal of inspiration. How else do you explain so many people choosing to customise buggered old bikes? But there are periods when simple was better and the ’90s gave us motorcycles like the Hornet and the Bandit… Source ..read more

For millions of people around the world, a motorcycle is a form of transport, nothing more. Then there are those of us who have a passion for all things two-wheels, we’ve gone well past the hobby phase and find it very easy to justify owning more bikes, buying more parts and spending longer in the saddle. But then there are those like the owner of this incredible motorcycle… Source ..read more

Grottoes, Virginia, is a small town in the Shenandoah Valley of the Appalachian Mountains, and although it’s less than 200 miles from Washington DC, there is no pork barrelling or easy lobbyist cash to be made here. It’s a place where life will test you and every single dollar made has to be earned through blood, sweat and tears. For six generations that’s the way it’s been for the family of… Source ..read more

When you look at your social feed or turn on the idiot box, there’s no denying we are divided as a human race. But there’s one event that helps restore my faith in humanity, where motorcycle riders from every continent unite to ride on the same day for a unified cause. This year, The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride (DGR) worldwide campaign is befittingly themed “Side by Side”. Source ..read more
