After yesterday’s leisurely 26km paddle and pedal, today’s 31km bike ride was set to be a tad more challenging.
Today, our aim was to plug the gap between our 25th of June 2023, (Innerwick to Lochan Learg Nan Lunn), and 18th of April 2022, (Kilin to Big Rock), Great North Trail bike rides.
The majority of the ride from Kilin to the bottom of the hill, (approx. 14km), was on a wonderfully tarmacked road and relatively flat. (That is “relative” to the rather steep hill that we took when the tarmac road ran out.) From here we went through a large gate and it was only about 1km to the gate ..read more

Another Molly accompanied section of the Great North Trail, filling in a gap left from April 2022.
Starting from the car park at the Mhor 84 Motel, we biked just over 8km to the “Big Rock”, where we had stopped in April 2022, before turning around and heading back. Most of this section was fairly flat, apart from that one BIG hill which the path zig-zagged it’s way up.
Taking it easy today at Molly’s pace, as it was our second activity of the day, and we’re saving ourselves for a BIGGER ride on the GNT tomorrow.

Out for a mid-morning paddle with Calum and Rhona. I have paddled loads of times on Loch Tay over the past 20 years, and this has got to be the flattest I have ever experienced it!
With almost zero wind, a few rain showers, and snow on some of the hills, it was fab to be on the water!
Thanks to Calum for the vids and some of the pics.

After a 6km recce along the Deeside Way with Molly, it was back to Dinnet to drop her off and start our “Pie Challenge”. An 11km bike ride to Ballater, grab a wonderful hot pie, munch it down and then 11km back to Dinnet. The sun was shining on the way there, but on the way back the wind and hail were horizontal! It’s surprising what you can handle with a hot mince pie in your belly!
Why did we have to bike all the way to Ballater? Well, because Ballater has hot pies and Dinnet dinnet!

The first paddle of the year with the Highland Prone Paddlers. On the water with James, Lindsay, and Rhona, (on her SUP). The sun was shining, but don’t get fooled, that water was bloomin’ freezing!

Prone – Oban, Scotland
Feb 28, 2024
The 2nd day paddling with Patrick at Oban. Yesterday we paddled up and down a very windy and choppy Sound of Kerrera. Today we went from the Oban Sailing Club around to Dunstaffnage. Not much wind, but a good current
