We here at Sustainable Goodness are a bit jaded, we realize it and we are only somewhat apologetic for our skeptical ways. On one hand we see how climate change is front and center of many industries, like banking. I know, we were shocked too, but then bankers always shock us. But yes, banking is fully aware of climate change and how loaning money in this changing climate can affect their bottom lines. But. They are still investing heavily in fossil fuels. And it’s been how many Earth Days and what has changed to help our planet? The answer is Earth Day started April 22, 1970. Yep, over 50 ye ..read more

Never underestimate how much trash us human beings create both on and off-world. The graphic below is from NASA and it represents objects in our orbit. More graphics via the link. The following graphics are computer generated images of objects in Earth orbit that are currently being tracked. Approximately 95% of the objects in this illustration are orbital debris, i.e., not functional satellites. The dots represent the current location of each item. The main source of all that space debris? Satellite explosions and collisions. Since there are a record number of satellites, there are more c ..read more

Blueland is a New York based company that makes earth friendly cleaning products for the home and for you. All the products, except their own brand of bottles, are made here in the United States. From Blueland.com. Here’s how you use the tablets from Blueland. I put it in a beaker so you can see what the tablet looks like as it dissolves in water. It took about 5 minutes for it to completely dissolve. Shaking it up a bit in the bottle would be helpful, but again, the beaker was for demonstration. What to know about Blueland. They make eco friendly cleaners for home and personal care, like b ..read more

Chomp tablet toothpaste is our favorite - for now. We have been trying a few toothpaste tablets, packaged in recyclable tins, for a few months now. And, to date, we have tried the following brands below. In-depth reviews of any of them didn’t make sense, because, well, most of them were just okay. And honestly, how many times can you write about the foaming action of a toothpaste tablet and sound sincere? But the Chomp brand above, is our favorite of the bunch — so far. (More on Chomp in a moment.) Now to the ones we tried and didn’t review. They weren’t bad, but honestly, none of them left u ..read more

Leafinty Shampoo and Conditioner bars review.

Leafinty shampoo and conditioner bar set from Amazon. They’re hitting all the right notes here with packaging. The curly hair shampoo and conditioner set. In our quest to be free of plastic shampoo and conditioner bottles, we have been buying and trying a few bars. Leafinty, which I found on Amazon, has me pretty upbeat about the state of shampoo and conditioner bars. The photo immediately above is what is advertised on Amazon and the two prior photos are what I received. As you can see I received a somewhat damaged bamboo soap holder and a sisal bag rather than what you see above. Since I ..read more

An aerial view of a cement plant outside Jarkarta operated by PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk (SBI), September 21, 2021. The global cement industry says it’s burning more plastic waste as a cheaper, cleaner alternative to coal. Some scientists and academics told Reuters that plastic is a dirty fuel that releases harmful air emissions. REUTERS/Willy Kurniawan (This photo and caption were taken directly from Reuters.) Burning plastic trash in poorer parts of the world to fuel cement kilns is not being “plastic neutral” nor is it a path to sustainability. It’s polluting the world even more and sp ..read more

Let’s say you, dear reader, are the CEO of the multi-national conglomerate Globex Corporation (yes, we watched a lot of The Simpsons). Globex Corp makes products used all over the world. And all of your products, from foods to personal care items, are packaged in plastic. Heck, Globex owns a petrochemical plant in India as well. Your carbon emissions are high. Yet, you don’t want to give up your cheap plastic packaging or your chemical plant that produces the raw materials for all that plastic packaging, because you’d be giving up a few cents in dividends for your investors. What do you do to ..read more

Since we have children in their 20s and they have friends (also in their 20s) we conducted an informal survey. The main question was “What is one thing about sustainability that is important to you, as someone your age?” Every single one of them responded with, in one way or another, “Making sure our planet doesn’t boil.” Climate change and global warming are real and the 20-somethings we spoke to are trying to figure out why this issue is not the one we should all be working on to fix immediately. And they do think we have the ability to truly fix this. With science on their side, they are p ..read more
