I was honored Wednesday to attend the 60th anniversary celebration commemorating Pete Brown’s victory in the 1964 Waco Turner Open at Falconhead Resort in Burneyville. Brown’s victory was the first by an African-American on the PGA Tour and blacks were not able to play on the tour until just two years prior due to the PGA of America’s Caucasian Only clause in its charter. INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Southwestern Oklahoma State University, host Rogers State, Northeastern State University and Central Oklahoma will all compete in an NCAA Division II Regional Monday and Tuesday at Hillcrest Country Club in Bartlesville. SWOSU drew the No. 3 seed behind Henderson State and Central Missouri. Rogers State is the fourth seed, NSU sixth and UCO eighth. All participants will compete through the 54 holes over three days of competition. INDIANAPOLIS – Oklahoma State and Oklahoma will be heading to the West Coast to begin pursuit of the NCAA Golf Championship, as the Sooners drew the No. 3 seed and OSU No. 5 in the 14-team regional at The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. Natalie Blonien of Altus won her second Class 5A state championship in dominant fashion with a blistering 65 in strong winds Tuesday at Muskogee Golf Club. The 6-under round put her at 9-under 133 after an opening 68, 19 shots ahead of Allie Justiz of Bishop McGuiness, which won the team title. Allie Justiz Blonien, who signed with Arkansas for the 2024-25 season, also won the title in 2022 before finishing second in 2023. With two holes to finish in his third found, Tracy Phillips of Tulsa is hanging in gamely in an effort to earn one of 20 spots available in the 2024 PGA Championship as he is currently tied for 16th in the PGA Professional Championship at Fields Ranch at PGA Frisco. SELLERSBURG, Ind. – Mesa Falleur of Muskogee shot rounds of 67-71-67 to finish 11-under and win the Summit League Championship at Covered Bridge Golf Club in Sellersburg, Ind. Falleur helped UMKC shoot 17-under in the final round and pull away from South Dakota State and Oral Roberts University.
