Haiku in music: 5 sublime pearls of Matsuo Bashō transformed into musical fragments
Giuseppe Bonaccorso

In this article, I want to present five haiku by the great Japanese master Matsuo Bashō (1644 – 1694), accompanied by as many musical fragments composed and recorded by me on various instruments, including the Koto, a typical chordophone resembling a small harp and widespread throughout Japan. For the time structure, I adopted an irregular tempo of 5/8 for the first and last bars and one of 7/8 for the middle bars. This way, the haiku’s syllabic (or, more accurately, blackberry-based) structure can be reproduced according to the 5/7/5 pattern. Of course, these are not authentic compositions wh ..read more

Edgar Allan Poe’s shortest poem is a glorious hymn to the Virgin Mary
Giuseppe Bonaccorso
by giuseppe.bonaccorso

It is almost astonishing that a writer like Edgar Allan Poe, a romantic in soul and literary intention, fascinated by the Gothic and the murky enchantments that intrigued the French cursed poets, could turn so and directly to the Virgin Mary of all people. Yet, his shortest poem is precisely titled “Hymn.” It is more of a prayer, devoid of all forms of allegory and rhetoric, simple and direct: a thanksgiving and an invitation, elements that, however, as we will have a chance to discuss, become almost utopian, transmuting from desperate urges to lucid realizations of reality. Today, death came to visit me. She had the bill between his fingers and was waiting for my turn, inescapable, statuary, as the ferromagnetic cashier Counting souls in the heart of the Zen labyrinth. … My cart is empty now: Thirsty, I drank on the sly, while a clerk (a novice) Careless, turned his back on me. Tones and semitones: those bricks that never fit in the right holes

Music appears to be an art based on precision and rigor. Anyone who has studied solfeggio knows this well and will remember the emphasis on tones and semitones. Woe to name E# or F♭! But are things really in those terms? Unfortunately, that is not the case. In this short article, I will highlight the existing problems and have no solution! Table of Contents Toggle   7 Minutes Read Is it fair to say that B# is different from C? The names of the notes are conventional. Tones and semitones: How high are these steps only? The shortest poem by Majakovsky dates from 1913, the most fruitful period for the celebrated Russian poet, and is entitled “Exhaustive Picture of Spring.” Before any discussion, it is good to read it: Leaflets. 440 or 432 Hz? It’s just a matter of… hoaxes!

In this short article, I wish to clarify (which, by the way, has already been done extensively by many scientists) what is true about the alleged benefits of a 432 Hz pitch compared to the modern standard of using an A at 440 Hz. Without unnecessary preamble, I can already anticipate that the pseudo-scientific theories supporting the 432 Hz are, as is almost always the case, the product of people who wish to invent conspiracies and all other forms of collective lies just to satisfy an ego not much gratified by daily life. In short, they are just blatant hoaxes that, like chakras and various co ..read more
