That Elusive Work-Life Balance…
Colorado Serenity Magazine
by Nancy Judge

I used to think when my children were toddlers that life was so busy and there were not enough hours in the day. When they were school age and had sports and other activities they needed to be driven to, I knew life could not get busier! I am not sure when this carousel of life will slow down, but just because I no longer have kids living at home who need to be “taken care of,” life has certainly not slowed. And for that, I am grateful! Learning how to balance all the different facets of my life would definitely help me in not feeling overwhelmed. On May 2, the Evergreen Chamber will be hosti ..read more

Colorado Serenity Magazine
by Margo Hamilton

Wedding Day Eighty years ago, while attending J.C. Potter Elementary School in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, providence united Boyd and Barb Norton in first grade. Neither then realized they were destined to become soulmates, but their academic acumen was apparent. Boyd was passionate about chemistry, and he loved studying atoms, molecules, and how elements react to the environment. His father stoked Boyd’s interest by supplying his son with elements that often ended in explosions in his basement lab. “Fortunately, my explosions were nothing our local fire department couldn’t handle,” Boyd jests. Courage is being scared to death and saddling up anyway. —John Wayne Well, you may not know this, but there’s things that gnaw at a man worse than dyin’. —Charlie Wait If it scares you, it might be a good thing to try. —Seth Godin If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough. —Albert Einstein Do what is right, not what is easy nor what is popular. —Roy T. If You Give a Dog a Cookie
Colorado Serenity Magazine
by Corey Colombin

If you give a dog a cookie, it is unlikely to end there. The dog doesn’t just give you a ‘thank you’ look and trot away, at least not for good. Chances are, he’ll want another, and he’ll pester you for more. You might have the willpower to resist those begging eyes, but your dog’s greatest wish is that you’re a stooge. In that hope, he will camp out by the dog cookie jar, committed to wearing you down. If you let your dog sleep on the end of the bed, he won’t be satisfied to stay there. He may look content curled up at your feet, his head resting across your ankles, but make no mistake, he wa ..read more

Spring Has Sprung, and It’s Still a Surprise
Colorado Serenity Magazine

It’s still a surprise that it’s 2024, that it’s April, that my youngest is graduating in May, and I’ll turn 50 in July. That COVID began four years ago (that will always be a significant marker of time) and that we will be facing an election of T and B yet again in the fall. Surprising is such a great word to describe what is happening right now and yet it’s all been slowly approaching. Not sure how that dynamic works out that way; slowly, then all of a sudden. Hemingway wrote, “Gradually, then suddenly,” an excerpt from “The Sun Also Rises,” where a character responds to how he went bankrupt ..read more

What You Can Do About Personal Grief During your journey on Earth, you face incredible moments of joy, challenge and discomfort. You never know where those “moments” may originate, or for how long. In your life, you may face an accident, loss of a loved one, disintegration of a friendship, or a disease of some kind. A famous philosopher said, “Life is a spiritual boot camp. You will be tested. You must make good choices to thrive.” A small child may be better prepared for life’s “boot camp” moments than adults. They don’t think so much about their predicament or feel sorry for themselves. The ..read more
