Don’t worsen division by signing Sunol petition

The petitioning has begun to remove two members of the Sunol school board. Emotions have been whipped up for or against flying the gay pride flag. Let’s consider what’s really going on here.  Anyone decent wants children to feel safe and supported emotionally at school. We don’t want kids being bullied and harassed by their classmates. That’s one thing. Very laudable. Quite another thing is for children to be surrounded by a cultural crusade of sexualization, of whatever variety. School is a precious time to develop children’s minds and to assist families in developing children ..read more

Where have Liberals gone?

The Alameda Unified School District (AUSD) Board missed a chance to do something bold for our kids. I’ve attended meetings for several months and met some members. Without a doubt, we have intelligent board members who devote their time and clearly care about our children. Sometimes you have to take a stand for something that may be unpopular, or perhaps against an irrational state rule.  In this case, the mask mandate.   ..read more

Our brave law enforcement is under attack in California!   From radical liberals trying to defund our officers to increased attacks from criminals and gangs-- they are under severe threat.  In 2021 ALONE: ❌ 314 Officers Shot ❌ 58 Officers Killed by Gunfire ❌ Ambush Attacks on Officers Up 126% from 2020  Half of Californians have said they DON’T support our police- we need to know where you stand!  If grassroots patriots like you don’t share their support for our police-- the defunding of LAPD will spread across the state to every police department like wildfire! Protest the banks... but for the right reason!

I was amused reading of the protest against Wells Fargo Bank and Bank of America (“https://alamedasun.com/news/anti-bank-protest-set-tuesday-march-21,” March 9). There are many good reasons for protesting these behemoths of American usury. Think of all the people who lost their homes during the 2008 collapse while the banks got bailed out. Think of the exorbitant credit card interest rates and fees. Think of massive funding of parasitical hedge funds while small and medium sized businesses are starved for credit. The fact that there has been so little outrage over the massive bailout of the b ..read more

Think bigger on public bank plan

Written in response to an article about the Public Bank East Bay, with a heavy focus on financing "green" projects. Re: “East Bay cities seek safe financial waters” (Page A1, Feb. 26).- Your article on the Public Bank East Bay demands a response. You reference the usefulness of the public Bank of North Dakota in financing productive activities under more favorable conditions than local businesses and local governments could get from big Wall Street banks. All true. However, why think small?  When this country was founded, Alexander Hamilton and George Washington established a national ba ..read more

Ranked Choice Voting Created a Mess

Isn’t it curious how silent the advocates of ranked choice voting have become recently. Somehow the mess caused in Oakland has sent people scurrying into their hidey-holes. “It’s so simple.” “It will save money.” “It will improve democracy.” These were the siren cries we heard before the recent screw-up.   The Oakland school board race in which Nick Resnick was certified as the winner, is now in limbo, as the Registrar of Voters, Tim Dupuis, announced on Dec. 28 that due to an error in how the ranked choice voting was tabulated, candidate Michael Hutchinson should have been the winner. Ranked Choice is Bad Choice

The Alameda Sun published numerous letters and an opinion piece (“Election Results Reveal Need for Ranked Choice Voting,” Dec. 8; https://alamedasun.com/news/election-results-reveal-need-ranked-choice-v...) promoting the virtues of “ranked-choice voting.” Hold your horses! One line repeated is, “It’s simple.” Well, maybe in theory, but, in practice, a lot of voters have been very confused. And many who didn’t understand and voted for only one candidate, thereby handed over some of their voting power to those who did understand the system. Thus, the system is weighted to benefit those who ..read more

Vote for Alison Hayden (CD14)

Why? Well, primarily because she’s not Eric Swalwell. Eric wants to be reelected, because he feels the only thing keeping inflation costs down are the Democrats, who simultaneously fund a proxy war on the other side of the world. News flash: the Democrats, in two years, have turned our economy into shambles, our immigration system into a joke and our foreign policy into a danger zone. Eric has been laser-focused on his own career. He actually had the temerity to run for President of the United States, garnering less than 1% support and dropping out. Meanwhile, he touts his big accomplishments ..read more

Let's Rally the Temporary Republicans

Over the last several years I have expressed my angst at what's happened to the Democratic Party. In the days of FDR and JFK, one could be a Democrat and be pro-industry, pro-family, etc. and “social justice” meant social justice, not legalized crime. The party was generally a defender of working people and the little guy.  Today, it has become a party led by “an elitist cabal of warmongers who racialize every issue and weaponize the security state to go after their political opponents.” said former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard when she announced quitting the Democratic Party. It's worth w ..read more
