Food in toothpaste-like tubes, canned preparations, bags filled with a freeze-dried preparation. These are the main images of space food that we have seen since the first manned flight and the most recent voyages into space.
After they were disseminated, these images left the impression that space food was a kind of ration, a minimalist portion much more focused on nourishing and sustaining the body than on actually feeding cultural aspects related to food. While these images are still prevalent, it seems that this idea of space food has been changing for s ..read more

On the eve of Easter, as every year, it’s impossible not to notice the flood of chocolate offers everywhere. Both in the media and in the various shops and supermarkets, the colorful packaging of chocolate eggs is highlighted weeks before the date. Every year, however, this celebration tastes saltier.
In recent years, the price of Easter eggs in Brazil has become exorbitant. At the same time, chocolate bars have become more expensive and fewer in volume. And the changes don’t stop there.

Over the last few decades, many things have changed about food. It’s true that the younger generations, in particular, cook much less than their predecessors. In a recent article in the Folha de São Paulo newspaper, the CEO and owner of iFood ..read more

But that’s not all.
Eating the food prepared by my sister reminded me that the idea of home cooking is becoming increasingly important. In our busy daily lives, where we rush around, ove ..read more

I always leave several tabs open on my computer screen. A bad habit. I promise myself to organize these tabs so that I can read all the texts, but the days go by and instead of closing them, I end up opening so many more. It’s not uncommon for me to remember some piece of information that led me to leave one of the tabs open and, when I look for it, I find another text that catches my eye and I end up reading it and forgetting what I was looking for. This is one of my daily sagas brought on by technology.
Today was no different. I was looking for some information in one of the open tabs and ca ..read more

A recent publication in the Lancet magazine reporting that Colombia has become one of the first countries in the Americas to tax junk food is a provocation to think about how far we have come in human nutrition. Why has the consumption of junk food become so ubiquitous around the world?
The term junk food was used for the first time in 1972 by Michael Jacobson, an American scientist, referring to products high in calories and low in nutritional quality. The term has become a synonym for ultra-processed foods, i.e. substances that look like foo ..read more
