Available From: Dice Dragons All tabletop gamers know that you can never have too many dice. It’s just an impossibility that you accept once you start discovering the joys of polyhedral dice. There’s always a more colourful, fancy or ornate set of dice out there to discover – and it’s pretty much impossible to resist the charms of a set of dice once they catch your eye. The particular set that I’ve been trying out at the Bronze Hollow Dragon Dice, from Dice Dragons. You don’t need me to tell you how incredible these dice look – just cast your eyes over them in the photos I took. As you can s ..read more

Price: Free – Available via Amazon Alexa-enabled devices – Website Though there’s a lot of privacy-related concerns surrounding voice activated, always connected tech (which are more than justified, I might add), there’s some incredibly cool features that few people may know about, let alone even try. I’m not sure where or how I stumbled upon the idea of playing RPGs via Alexa, but the first few I tried to activate couldn’t be found (I suspect that they’re not available in the UK at the moment). Working my way down a list of suggestions I found online, I discovered one that worked; just by sa ..read more

TTRPG Review: Goblin Quest (2015)

I’ve been fascinated with tabletop RPGs since the early 80s, as I’ve previously mentioned elsewhere on the blog. Dungeons & Dragons was one of my earliest, post-Star Wars obsessions; the red box starter set, despite me not being able to play very much at the time (I was 8 when it was bought for me!), was one of my most treasured possessions back in the mid-80s. I’ve always enjoyed reading the background and worldbuilding in RPGs and I’ve definitely spent more time doing that than actually playing them. I’ve found, however, that I’m more likely to get a session or two in of a game that’s r ..read more

Launching 8th April 2023 on Kickstarter, The Blessed and The Blasphemous is a six-scenario campaign book for the Call of Cthulhu TTRPG. Set in Morocco just before and during World War II, The Blessed and the Blasphemous takes players on a terrifying tour of North Africa, drawing upon the rich history and culture of the region – albeit with appropriately Lovecraftian flavours. A lavishly produced, 325+ page volume, The Blessed and the Blasphemous will also contain 20 unique, pre-generated character sheets, along with maps and other aids for the Keeper and players. Each scenario can be played i ..read more

Corpus Malicious – Update

I featured the deliciously dark DnD 5e companion Corpus Malicious shortly after its crowdfunding campaign launched on Kickstarter (at which point, impressively, it had already smashed its funding goal) – and, with ten days to go on the campaign, I thought I’d check in and see how it was doing. Turns out the answer to that is very well indeed. Now at more than £36,000 – with the initial goal being a little over £8,000 – in funding, much more content is now set to be added to the original book thanks to the addition of some great stretch goals. Further artwork will now be added, physical GM S ..read more

TTRPG Review: Tiny Dungeon (1st Edition)

A few years ago, fuelled by passionate creators on Kickstarter, I backed a number of cheap, rules-light tabletop RPGs in the hope of finally convincing family and friends to play. I’d never been able to talk them into it, as they were often intimidated by the size of rulebooks and even the relative complexity of character creation. I mean, they weren’t alone. Given that the responsibility of learning rules and running games always sat with me, I was often unable to ‘get’ even those RPGs that described themselves as simple to play. It was too much to take on alone, frankly, as well as then try ..read more

Corpus Malicious – The Codex of Evil (D&D 5e)

Official Website/Available to back here via Kickstarter Despite not having a chance to play D&D in the last few years, I’ve been a fan for a very long time (since the early 80s, in fact – and I got hold of my very own D&D red box on my 8th birthday!). The Fifth Edition of D&D (referred to as 5e), released in 2014, was a long overdue return to form for Dungeons and Dragons – and has proven to be the shot in the arm that the system desperately needed after a few missteps over the years. A wealth of supplemental material from Wizards of the Coast and other publishers has been release ..read more

Board Game Review: Dungeon Mayhem

I’ve talked quite a bit on here about my love for tabletop roleplaying, and old school Dungeons & Dragons in particular. Though not an RPG itself, Dungeon Mayhem is a card game ostensibly set in the D&D universe, albeit with a much more cartoony look than players may be used to – along with very simple gameplay. Contained in the base game are four unique characters, each representing a class that’ll be familiar to D&D players (Barbarian, Wizard, Rogue & Paladin). Each character has their own deck of 28 cards, along with a reference card and hit point tracker in their own colou ..read more

TMNT: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles – 35th Anniversary

Who knew that four anthropomorphic reptiles – named after renaissance artists – with a penchant for ass-kicking would turn out to be such enduring icons? Yet here we are, on the 35th anniversary of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It wasn’t until a few years after they appeared in 1984 that I first heard of them – it was through reading Marvel comics that I first caught glimpses of TMNT imagery; adverts for comic stores back then seemed to be pushing TMNT quite hard in their listings of ‘hot’ comic books. I caught sight of an issue or two in my local, short-lived comic shop (Krypton Komics – hi ..read more

I thought I’d try something a little different today. As regular readers and close friends will know, I write daily – and I somehow manage to cover an awful lot of ground in a very short space of time. It’s very easy for readers who aren’t following me or being alerted to my new articles to miss them – and even when I look over the previous articles I’ve covered, I realise that I’m getting through lots of different types of article even in the course of just a week. So today I wanted to just give a quick overview of what I’ve looked at in the last seven days. Game Pass Adventures This time la ..read more
