Hi Elena,
Sounds like Oslob and many other regions can learn from what’s happening at at Padre Burgos.
Yes there are plenty of natural food sources in Saleh Bay, this is the reason the sharks are choosing to stay here. However, feeding does happen. I like the idea of identifying sharks with a spotter, however this bay is HUGE and it may not be feasible as they swim quite fast. That said, I’m going to look more into the situation in Padre Burgos and pass on some details to the local guys in Saleh Bay.

Hiya, informative article, thanks. I was guided to this as I’m investigating the Lombok to Flores boat trip so was reading your other article and am not keen on seeing whale-sharks in areas that they’re fed. However I do understand that it’s a complex ethical issue.
My reason for commenting… I swam with whale-sharks in the Padre Burgos area of Philippines (actually, a bay 90mins away but I can’t remember the name). The whale-sharks come here naturally for feeding as it’s an area with a natural large amount of krill. I can’t say that it’s 100% ethical as there’s a bit of chasing from the few to ..read more

Hi
We have visited the Ohau seal colony many times before the large earthquake. I believe the waterfall, where the baby seals played was destroyed. Is it still possible to see the seals in the waterway leading up into the forest?
