Well, wasn’t this absolutely adorable? 13 Going on 30 is one of those rom coms I never get tired of watching, and Woke Up Like This is reminiscent of that film, only instead of middle school friends, the protagonists are two high school seniors who are enemies.  The story follows overreacher Charlotte Wu and popular jock J. T. Renner. Every interaction between them is a competition, including coming up with the best Prom theme. An accident occurs while they are decorating for the big event, and suddenly they are transported in time. To their shock, they wake up in the future where they ar ..read more

Review: The Hookup Plan by Farrah Rochon

I’m late to this series, but I’ve now read two of the three books, and The Hookup Plan is my favorite. London is a widely-respected pediatric surgeon, and Drew is a millionaire financier. They are two overachievers and former high school rivals who meet again at a class reunion. London’s grudge hasn’t lessened over time and neither has Drew’s attraction to her. When passion and animosity collide, great angry sex is sure to follow! Drew is so patient and understanding waiting for London to come to her senses. I was initially bothered by London’s petty behavior, but the story explores the deeper ..read more

Review: The Hunter by L.J. Shen

I’m just going to rip the Band Aid off. I can’t think of one positive thing to say about The Hunter. The plot is meh, but most of my issues have to do with the main character. The hero, Hunter, is absolutely detestable. Everything about him revolves around sex. He’s obsessed with having it, going without it, talking about it, and making inappropriate sex jokes that aren’t even funny. The very first scene involves an orgy and is difficult to stomach with how badly Hunter degrades the women. It’s disgusting, and there’s very little character growth throughout. The heroine, Sailor, is too soft, a ..read more

Audiobook Review: By a Thread by Lucy Score

Lucy Score flaunts her dirty birdy side in By a Thread, a grumpy/sunshine, enemies-to-lovers office rom com. It’s warm, funny, hotter than Hades, and I was glued to every entertaining moment. Shout out to my girl Ally. She is fiercely Independent (yes, the capital “I” is necessary). Even in the face of financial desperation and a family crisis, she manages to remain optimistic and resourceful. I loved her spunk. She gives as good as she gets with Dominic, whereas everyone else is intimidated by the handsome, taciturn, powerful alphahole. There’s something satisfying about a strong man being br ..read more

Audiobook Review: Little Lies by H. Hunting

H. Hunting successfully kicks off her dramatic new adult series with Little Lies. I like college romance, and if you throw in a friends-turned-enemies-turned-lovers relationship animosity between the two main characters you can count on me to read it. I’m not a fan of flashbacks, but in this case I actually enjoyed the recollections from Lavender and Kodiak’s childhood more than the present events. Lavender has always been shy and occasionally too paralyzed with fear to even speak. Her family has a tendency to be overprotective, but Kodiak designated himself as her main protector from a young ..read more

Audiobook Review: Love, Theoretically by Ali Hazelwood

I thought I’d had my fill of Ali Hazelwood’s women in STEM romances, but apparently I was wrong because Love, Theoretically knocked me off my feet. Elsie is an adjunct theoretical physics professor who is overworked and grossly underpaid. To make ends meet, she has a side hustle working for a fake dating service. She’s smart, charismatic, and a people-pleaser to a fault. Instinctively knowing what makes people happy and adjusting her behavior accordingly is second nature to Elsie. The problem is she no longer knows what makes her happy. Jack is the golden boy of the experimental physics world w ..read more

Things We Left Behind is the third and final book in the Knockemout series, and I’ve been looking forward to the story behind Sloane and Lucian’s acrimonious relationship. A small town librarian, Sloane is a spitfire who just wants to have a family, and she feels time is running out to find the man of her dreams. Lucian is more like the man of her nightmares. He is a powerful, wealthy businessman with questionable morals. Lucian and Sloane have a complicated history, but nobody knows why these former childhood friends are now diehard enemies. Now, I love me some Lucy Score, but I did have some ..read more

Review: Brutal Prince by Sophie Lark

Brutal Prince has one fatal flaw. Remember kindergarten, when you couldn’t wait for Show and Tell Day to show off your favorite collectible and see what your classmates brought? The telling part was ok, but it was the showing that really captured my attention. Brutal Prince suffers from too much telling and not nearly enough showing. The book is actually a quick read because the story fast forwards a lot, leaving behind details that would make the characters and the plot more interesting. I’m not a huge fan of mafia romances, but for those who crave them, this may be a disappoin ..read more

Review: Love on the Brain by Ali Hazelwood

On the heels of Ali Hazelwood’s breakout hit,The Love Hypothesis, Love on the Brain had a lot to live up to. I’m pleased to say that while I didn’t love it as much, Love on the Brain is still quite enjoyable. I like how Hazelwood portrays women in STEM as quirky and fun. It seems to be her storytelling signature, and it’s right up my alley. Love on the Brain isn’t one of those dark enemies-to-lovers stories where the main characters are cruel to each other before falling deeply in love. Instead, with a relationship built on a ground of misunderstandings, there is a playful animosity between Be ..read more
