What’s happening in the world of FMCG sales, marketing and category jobs? For the last 3 blogs we’ve been quoting ABS data, the RBA, and the Treasury to make sense of how our institutions are measuring and steering the economy. But, sometimes, you’ve just got to believe in your gut, and my gut says we’re on a steadier path to a better place (but it is also based on some evidence). From the ongoing talent market excitement and disruption that is the new Suntory world, to an increased confidence in many senior leaders in my network, it bodes well. So, what are we seeing for Sales, Marketing an ..read more

What’s happening in Sales, Marketing & Category?    In our April blog, we highlighted the recent ABS and Seek quarterlies showing vacancies and job ads trending down, meaning a softening recruitment market. This week, Treasurer Jim Chalmers produced his 2024 Budget; an attempt to ease cost-of-living pain without overstimulating the economy. Will it work? Ask 10 economists, and get 10 different answers! In recruitment-land, we can’t wait to get back to the normal (halcyon?) days of low interest rates, low inflation, good economic growth, and full employment! We’re not aski ..read more

April Market Update – Sales, Marketing & Category    The big indicator of recruitment market performance is the quarterly ABS Job Vacancies Report. This is compiled across every sector and organisational type.  The report just out shows a 6.1% decrease in vacancies compared to the previous quarter but is still ahead of pre-covid numbers. The second indicator is the monthly Seek Job Ad update, which was down 2.5% but still ahead of pre covid levels.  So, what to read into all of that?! Most sectors and most companies see 2024 as a year to get through unscathed, allowing ..read more

December Market Update – Australian FMCG and CPG for Sales, Marketing & Category In November we talked about the lumpy nature of the market; Sales was running hot, Marketing had softened and Category was getting busy. We’ve been partnering with clients to fill roles for Senior NAMs, NBMs, Heads of Channel and Customer Directors, with more to come. Partially this is driven by some movement at Sales Director level with new leaders putting their imprint on a bu ..read more

“Should I Stay or Should I Go …?”   Now that’s a great song by punk band The Clash – released over 40 years ago! You may think that’s a long time, but the curse of Counteroffers has been around for longer, albeit in various forms, but in today’s competitive job market it is so prevalent. Small talent pools, limited hiring budgets, fear of disrupting the workflow and team mix are all “drivers” for Employers to attempt to retain staff. The upside for the Employer is they may avoid the points mentioned, but equally they must deliver on the “promises” made in the counteroffer – that could be ..read more

A monthly recruitment blog for National Account Managers, Brand Managers and Category Managers   (and everybody else in FMCG Sales, Marketing and Category!)   This is not an employment market of long, slow and smooth trends. It’s lumpy. Some months are up, and some are down.
