Acupuncture, Menopause and Me!

If I am being completely honest, acupuncture to support menopause had not been on my radar until mid-2023, when it was recommended to me within a workplace presentation by an individual who had noticed great success following her own course of acupuncture.  Then I found Lucy at The Dorset Acupuncturist and we discussed me as a whole, and not me and my menopause.  As a result, Lucy devised a course of treatment for 4 weeks. I didn’t notice an immediate impact on how I felt upon leaving each session, but probably two months after the treatment I started to notice the positive effe ..read more

Law Firms – Then vs Now
Nicola Green Consultancy Blog

Let me start by taking you back to the late 1990’s to my early years in law and my first understanding of menopause. It was simple…my experience was female colleagues who talked about menopause and could be visually seen sweating and having hot flushes at their desks. Fans were on and survival technique was to pop out and buy chocolate at about 3pm just to get through the day.  Was anyone being inspired to understand and value the experiences of these women in the workplace? No.  Was anyone asking if there was anything that the firm could do to support them? No. Were the individuals ..read more

“I’ve seen lots of women here wearing lovely dresses, but I just wear black to work because it is easiest for me.”

These were the words of a lady chatting to me before one of my workplace presentations and I completely understood, I have been there, however I also wanted to ignite some change because I knew first-hand the positive difference it can make. Post-Covid and a few years into my menopause and I felt just like the lady quoted above. I was lost when it came to my body shape, colour preferences and style. I no longer knew what to wear, so I was working in leggings with chunky dark cardigans and feeling that if I added a necklace I was ok for a Zoom meeting! If you follow my work you will know that I ..read more

Nutrition is not about going on a diet!

As a ‘W.I.P’ perimenopausal woman I decided in early 2023 it was time to really focus on my nutrition and personally work with a Nutritional Therapist.  Why? Firstly, because I was looking for ‘sustainability’. Could improving my nutrition help me balance my busy life. I also knew my desire for sugar had a big impact on how I felt about myself, my sleep, and my anxiety levels.  I followed a 3-month personalised programme that was about so much more than just nutrition.  Let me clear one thing up – nutrition is not about going on a diet! Before my own personal nutritional work an ..read more

Out of my comfort zone!

For, at least, the last year I have made decisions on the basis of being 51% sure (thank you Steven Bartlett for this tip). I have always said that, for me, taking HRT is only one part of my menopause support. This mindset has allowed me to embrace new adventures on a personal and professional basis and to keep pushing myself out of my comfort zone.  I try new things to support me but also to support you! I am always sharing my new experiences with clients and attendees to sow seeds for them and there are my 2024 tried and tested… The gym If I re-read my 2022 diary I would see the sentenc ..read more

Menopause and Mum

“Thank you for the talk – I feel better equipped to support my mum”. Unfortunately, I was unable to support my mum with her menopause. Firstly, because she did not understand what it was or what was happening to her and secondly, because she would never have told me even if she did or asked for any help. Upon reflection, I remember changes, I remember worrying about her, but I did not understand what was happening. I now see a huge and extremely positive shift in the workplace. My work is for everyone and you might be surprised to understand that I get a huge amount of individuals in their 20 ..read more

With over 64,000 impressions, more than 450 likes, 105 comments and 13 reposts this is a LinkedIn message that has hit a Nicola Green Consultancy record for interaction and it was nothing to do with menopause in the workplace! But actually, maybe it was… My intention was to raise awareness for those going into work on Monday morning, following the weekend University drop off, and needing some support. The comments, the emotion, the togetherness, was not only beautiful, but so very supportive. I was most inspired by the sharing, empathy and understanding for each other. Those that had been thro ..read more

Choices

I’ve struggled to decide what to write about this month, but this morning’s webinar has encouraged me to write about choices.  I talk a lot about choices within my presentations and I’ve recently refocused on my own choices in life.  Yes, there will always be outside influences of different degrees, but ultimately, our choices are our own. When I advise attendees that processed sugar and alcohol in the evening might be increasing or causing their menopausal night sweats… you can imagine the responsive groan. I am very quick to say I am not telling anyone to stop enjoying their “go to ..read more

How much is menopause costing your business?

My recent survey of HR professionals revealed a whopping 86% did not record menopause related sickness separately and this leads into one of the menopause related issues impacting the financial aspect of a business… ‘the unknown cost of menopause.’ I wonder what the answer would have been if I had asked the same HR professionals if they held a record of menopause related staff turnover… The UK’s Balance App recently carried out some research, which focused on the financial impact of menopausal women leaving the workplace due to the menopause and associated costs of recruiting and retraining st ..read more

Ice Baths – Time to Just Be

“You must be crazy!”  These are the words I heard from family and friends when I said that I was off to a breathwork and ice bath experience. I did not feel crazy, as ice baths have been something I have been interested in for a long time, and I completed a breathwork course last year and still benefit from my learning. But why? I’d previously watched the series where Wim Hof took celebrities on a journey of breathwork and cold water/ice immersion, and I witnessed the emotional but positive impact it had.  I was so inspired by how individuals could recentre themselves by c ..read more
