Our daughter has been a fan of the Bachelor franchise since her teens. Although my wife and I never saw this reality show, Rachel recently convinced us to watch its recent more “mature” incarnation, the Golden Bachelor. Twenty-two women competed for the attention of Gerry, a well-preserved male specimen from Indiana, and practically threw themselves at him. Like aging warriors, they battled each other for his attention. Their weapon of choice? Plastic surgery. Sometimes the Golden Bachelor felt less like a show about second chance romance and more like the Plastic Surgery Superbowl. Facelifts ..read more

What Is An Internal Bra? Do I Need One For My Breast Implant Revision Surgery?

The “internal bra” procedure involves placement of an artificial mesh to support breast implants. This is sometimes used for primary (first-time) breast augmentation and very frequently used in secondary (revision) augmentation. Why use mesh to support breast implants for a revision breast augmentation surgery? Successful breast revision surgeries often require tightening of the scar tissues (capules) surrounding the breast implants. This allows the breast implants to be elevated to improve upper breast fullness or pushed centrally to improve cleavage. One way to address this is by placement o ..read more

The “internal bra” procedure involves placement of an artificial mesh to support breast implants. This is sometimes used for primary (first-time) breast augmentation and very frequently used in secondary (revision) augmentation. Why use mesh to support breast implants for a first-time breast augmentation surgery? Many surgeons place silicone gel or saline breast implants through a subglandular (above muscle) or, more popularly, a dual plane approach (lower half above muscle, upper half below). This means that either the entire implant or the entire lower half of the implant has no support from ..read more

If you have stubborn fat pockets and excess skin around your midsection, you may be considering a tummy tuck to eliminate these concerns. Traditional tummy tucks typically center on the lower to middle abdomen, but what if your midsection concerns are a little higher? A reverse tummy tuck reduces excess skin and fat from the upper portion of the abdomen, providing a more targeted technique for slimming the area beneath the breasts. What Is the Reverse Tummy Tuck Procedure? You may already be familiar with the tummy tuck or abdominoplasty. During a traditional tummy tuck, board-certified plast ..read more

2 Minute Read:  What kind of cannula (suctioning instrument) do you use for liposuction under the chin? Why does it matter? I recently attended the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery annual meeting in Miami and visited the exhibitor booth to purchase another cannula for submental (under the chin) liposuction. The salespeople tried to push the “latest” cannulas with multiple holes running 360 degrees around the cannula to maximize efficiency. They also recommended “microcannulas” for precision. I ignored their recommendations and purchased another 3 millimeter single-hole cannu ..read more

Nonsurgical Alternatives to Liposuction Under the Chin

2 Minute Read:  Lots of us (perhaps most) have some extra fat under the chin. Does everyone need liposuction? Of course not. What are the alternatives? Do nothing. If the excess fat under your chin is not a major concern, I suggest doing nothing. Minor problems don’t always need solutions. Lose weight. If you gained some weight during COVID-19 lockdown and now the area under your chin is a little fluffier, weight loss is the easiest (and cheapest) solution. Of course, if your chin bothered you even when you were skinnier, then weight loss may be of limited value. CoolSculpting®. CoolScu ..read more

1 Minute Read:  We are in the midst of the worst worldwide pandemic in a century — and our plastic surgery practice is busier than ever.  And it’s not just us.  Plastic surgery is up an average of 11 percent nationally compared to pre-pandemic levels.  What’s going on? People are spending lots of time on Zoom and Facetime and–often for the first time– noticing their wrinkles, excess skin in their eyelids, and fat under their chins.   People who are working remotely are having cosmetic surgery and recovering at home without having to take much (or sometimes any ..read more

2 Minute Read:  To our best knowledge, Dr. Friedman currently performs more male nipple reductions than any other surgeon in the United States.  Why do so many men choose Dr. Friedman? 1. Experience He has been practicing plastic surgery for 26 years and performed nipple reductions on over 40 men last year alone (about half of whom flew in or drove in from other states).  Practice doesn’t make perfect, but it sure makes better. 2. Not Much Competition Most plastic surgeons seem unfamiliar with the procedure and feel much more comfortable performing surgery for gynecomastia (enl ..read more
