Back in the early days of Burger Lounge they had an exotic burger every few months.  I loved visiting and trying each one.  My favorite was their wild boar burger. For the month of November they brought back their bison burger. I loved the flavor of the bison which had a nice bit of […] The post Burger Lounge Pacific Highlands appeared first on Hungryones.com ..read more

Burger Deck is in an interesting location. They offer all outside seating and there is a view of trees which block the view of the freeway and airport. Yelp and Burger Deck invited me to visit and try the dirty fries. I loved the flavor of the shoestring style fries and hamburger meat.  The salty […] The post Burger Deck appeared first on Hungryones.com ..read more

The owner D. was running the front, was very welcoming, and provided excellent service. I ordered a burger with bacon, lettuce, and tomato.  Bun was fluffy with a nice mild flavor.  2 burger patties were thin and had a crispy outer layer.  Beef had a delicious beefy flavor and was perfectly seasoned.  Bacon was crunchy […] The post The Burger Joint & Brew appeared first on Hungryones.com ..read more

You never know what new place will appear in the UTC food court. The latest spot is Swagyu Burger. I loved the Swagyu burger I tried at their now closed Pacific Beach location. This visit I tried the triple american wagyu burger. Sadie Rose bun was toasted and had a nice mild flavor, soft, and fluffy.  Lettuce was crisp and had a mild flavor.  Tomato was fresh and juicy.  Wagyu was tender and had a nice beefy flavor. This was a pretty good burger.  I would have loved it with the addition of some bacon to add a smoky and salty flavor. Onion rings were crunchy ..read more

Driving down Garnet Ave I often see a new place to eat.  I noticed The Food Box and gave them a try. I ordered a burger with bacon, tomato, and beef.  There are lots of fancier options here.  There was a nice char on the beef.  Bacon was crunchy and had a salty flavor.  Tomato was fresh and juicy.  Solid burger and good size for lunch.  If I was hungrier I’d add pork. 2nd visit I tried the Lewis which featured a patty with beef brisket and marinated pork. Patty had lots of flavor.  The onion ring added some fried onion flavor.  Bacon w ..read more

It was a lovely drive to the top of the mountain.  I liked seeing how small everything below looked.  Almost like flying.  I’ve never been to this part of town but have been meaning to visit.  I saw The Trails Eatery on Restaurant Impossible and loved what I saw.  Lucky me a few days earlier I got off the waitlist for a Yelp event here. The Trails Eatery closes at 2pm and the event was at 6pm so we had the whole place to ourselves.  This is my first in person event since the apocalypse and it was nice socializing with old friends and new. Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburger

I love ice cream so I was interested in trying frozen custard.  Since frozen custard is in the name I figured Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburger would have the good stuff. I ordered the combo for $9.99.  Shoestring fries were the thinnest I’ve seen in a fast food spot.  Crispy with a nice flavor.  Not much of a fluffy center. Double bacon burger came with crispy bacon which had a nice salty flavor.  Beef patties were the thinnest I’ve had.  Nice char.  Good if you like your burger well done.  I liked the flavor of the beef which taste ..read more

In the old days when I ate in Pacific Beach it was usually at Tony Roma’s or Bare Back Grill.  Tony Roma’s has been gone for years and now there are lots more choices. 12 I was in the mood for a burger and gave San Diego Taproom a try. American Kobe Beef Burger was ordered medium and the beef was tender and juicy.  Lettuce and tomato were fresh and crisp.  I liked how the tender beef was lightly seasoned and had a bit of char.  Bacon had a vibrant savory flavor.  Great tasting burger. Fries were crispy on the outside and fluffy inside.  Loved the flavor and ..read more

I love going on road trips.  You never know what interesting places you will come across.  I found Big Al’s Burgers at The Junction on the way to Monument Valley from Zion.  They don’t have any classic burger joints like this where I live. I tried the buffalo burger with lettuce, tomato, and bacon.  The lettuce and tomato were fresh and crisp.  Buffalo had a texture like a beef patty.  Flavor was a bit more gamey.  Pretty good burger.  Perfect for a small lunch.  I’d add an extra patty if I was very hungry. 12 The water filtration wasn ..read more

Tommy’s is bright and looks kinda like In N Out. I tried a double hamburger with bacon.  Bun was fresh and toasted.  Lettuce and tomato were fresh and crisp.  2 beef patties were thin and well done with a beefy flavor.  Bacon was crunchy and had a savory flavor.  Overall the burger was solid.  Just like other fast food burgers I’ve tried. Soft serve cone featured vanilla soft serve which was sweet and had a nice vanilla flavor.  The cone was fine.  Dairy Queen is my fav spot for this treat. Tommy’s is a good value and the staff was nice and effi ..read more
