Driving down Garnet Ave I often see a new place to eat.  I noticed The Food Box and gave them a try. I ordered a burger with bacon, tomato, and beef.  There are lots of fancier options here.  There was a nice char on the beef.  Bacon was crunchy and had a salty flavor.  Tomato was fresh and juicy.  Solid burger and good size for lunch.  If I was hungrier I’d add pork. 2nd visit I tried the Lewis which featured a patty with beef brisket and marinated pork.       It was a lovely drive to the top of the mountain.  I liked seeing how small everything below looked.  Almost like flying.  I’ve never been to this part of town but have been meaning to visit.  I saw The Trails Eatery on Restaurant Impossible and loved what I saw.  Lucky me a few days earlier I got off the waitlist for a Yelp event here. I love ice cream so I was interested in trying frozen custard.  Since frozen custard is in the name I figured Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburger would have the good stuff. I ordered the combo for $9.99.  Shoestring fries were the thinnest I’ve seen in a fast food spot.  Crispy with a nice flavor.  Not much of a fluffy center. In the old days when I ate in Pacific Beach it was usually at Tony Roma’s or Bare Back Grill.  Tony Roma’s has been gone for years and now there are lots more choices. 12 I was in the mood for a burger and gave San Diego Taproom a try. I love going on road trips.  You never know what interesting places you will come across.  I found Big Al’s Burgers at The Junction on the way to Monument Valley from Zion.  They don’t have any classic burger joints like this where I live. Tommy’s is bright and looks kinda like In N Out. I tried a double hamburger with bacon.  Bun was fresh and toasted.  Lettuce and tomato were fresh and crisp.  2 beef patties were thin and well done with a beefy flavor.  Bacon was crunchy and had a savory flavor.  Overall the burger was solid.  Just like other fast food burgers I’ve tried. This is my first time at Craft House and I decided to try the $23 burger.  This will be the most expensive burger I’ve eaten.  The other thing that interested me was the $34 steak and fries.  I was scared off by the price as my fav steak and fry place only charges $14 and I didn’t think the steak and fries here would be 3 times as good. One Paseo has some great places to eat.  The Butchery is one of my favorites.  Line is long at lunch time but the staff keeps it moving. Meat case has some very nice looking meat. There is also a grocery store section with a great selection of snacks and bbq sauce. Butchery Burger featured very high quality beef.  Loved the flavor of the beef and the arugula and tomato gave this burger a fresh flavor.  Very different experience versus a Wendy’s burger with the lifeless beef patty.   I was out looking for a food truck to try and found Senor Woofle at UCSD. Eat Crispy Burger is shiny and new.  Yelp friends gave glowing reviews and I wanted to try a burger myself. 12 I ordered a double.  Loved the mild sweet flavor of the brioche bun.  Burger had an interesting mix of textures from the thin crispy beef patties and the soft fluffy bun.  I usually gravitate towards thick beef patties dripping juices.  Delicious mix of flavors from the angus beef, smoky and salty bacon, fresh lettuce and tomatoes.  I can taste why people are calling this the best burger in town.
