The gallery is proud to feature the work of member artist Drew Sutor during the month of May. Drew’s turned wooden pieces are incredible works of art that include a wide range of woods, some he hadn’t even heard of until about 10 years ago. He finds some of these rare species at St. Louis Wood Supply. Among these rarities is one of his favorites, Wenge, a beautiful black wood not found in the United States and Red Blood Wood. Other favorites include Tiger Maple, whose unusual marking are created by swaying in the wind, and spalted woods such as Hackberry and Maple. Drew writes the names of the ..read more

March ushers in Spring and also the start of our Spotlight artists of the year. This month is one of our newest members, Martha Adrian. A lifelong resident of Hannibal, Martha’s work is a mix of Hannibal scenes old and new and still lifes. As a child, Martha never thought of herself as an artist and it wasn’t until she had her family raised that she started taking art classes with local art teachers. After trying a variety of media she decided that acrylic and oil paint were her media of choice but feels that she is just now starting to figure it out. Many of the gallery artists have told her ..read more

As 2023 comes to an end and preparations are being made for the holidays, the Alliance Art Gallery is a perfect place to find gifts for those on your list… from wood to pottery, jewelry to wall hangings, paintings to greeting cards. When in doubt, a gift card is always a great choice. Some of our artists will also have special holiday items. We often hear that you can’t buy a piece of art as a gift because you don’t know if it will fit the tastes of the recipient. Some of my greatest treasures are pieces that were gifted to me because it is something my friends wanted me to have and I am remin ..read more

Guest artist Todd Damotte grew up with a pencil in his hand. As a small child, he would draw on the Sunday church bulletin, especially during the sermons. He always knew he would go to college and intended to major in art. While in community college he accused a fellow student of being a sellout because he was studying to be a graphic designer rather that a fine art major. It wasn’t until he was at Hannibal LaGrange University that he discovered that his fine art drawing skills could actually be used in graphic designing and today he works as a graphic designer in the marketing department at t ..read more

The gallery welcomes Claire Hasemeier as the October guest artist. This maker of unique jewelry will be bringing pieces that are an integration of fiber, metal and color. Cotton threads are hand-knotted using micro-macrame and cavandoli techniques and combined with metal that has been torched, hammered, patinaed and/or enameled. Textile inks and embroidery are added for depth and texture. When one first looks at photos of these beautiful pieces one might think they are made of beads. Closer inspection reveals the intricate individual knotting work. Claire currently resides in Elsberry, MO. Aft ..read more
