Weed taking over mulch

I have large mulch beds that get sun almost the entire day. The soil is average, but never muddy, as all excess water runs down our hill. The beds were really nice until for the past few years, this stuff has almost covered them. It looks like a grass, but the stems are fully rounded, not flat, and it feels very course. This is in Wisconsin. It never ventures out onto the lawn, just in the mulch. I tried spraying it with weed killer a while ago, but it didn't even seem to affect it. I've... Read more ..read more

Here is a couple of panoramic photos of my backyard fence line. As you can see the Morning Glory's have been really busy. In fact when we moved in a couple years ago, there was only a small bunch. They've even taken over on the west fence, and in what was supposed to be the garden area(Pic 2). Wrapping themselves around almost all of the weeds. Which happen to be very woody and sturdy already. Not the ones I'm used to. We've been a bit neglectful of the garden due to unforseen circumstances... Read more ..read more

wow is this one a royal pain in the butt. by the time i noticed it becoming a problem it has spread quite a bit into the grassy area and surrounding gardens and pathways. today i went out to see how easy it was to get out of the grass. it isn't at all. after a few moments i realised it had spread quite a bit and it's going to be a major project to remove. luckily for the pathways and surrounding gardens it isn't quite so bad because i can stir the mulch and then be able to remove the... These are the species reported by the University of Georgia, Center for Invasive Species and Ecosystem Health. You can click the map for your state and check. It probably makes a good deal of sense, if your state has a diverse environment, to go on to the county and check those species listed. Example: for one of the states here on the border, the #1 invasive for the state isn't even on the county list. There was another problem with species identification, according to... ID'ing That Weed

I like to forget about them through the winter. Ahhh! The weedless time of the year ... After awhile, I become embarrassed that I'm spending so much time on them in the spring and have once again, forgotten what they are! Many of our weeds are common to gardens, worldwide! They adapt well to the entire process. I've made good use of the Virginia Tech guide (LINK). But, I've gotta guess at the name to find the ID, easily. The pictures are great! Recently, I came across Oregon... Read more ..read more

i was shelling beans out and sometimes when picking beans i am also weeding and putting those weeds in the same box flat as the bean pods. when bringing in the flat i try to get all the weeds out and put into a weed bucket but not always get all of them so some of the seeds may show up in the chaff at the bottom of the flat. the first picture is of the Purslane seeds - they are large enough and distinctive enough that i can see them...
