Setting up the Tower Garden

This thing is about ten years old and has been sitting outside most of that time (and looks it). I was pretty sure it was a waste of time, but I bought a new pump for it, and I spent about two hours cleaning out the old rockwool and scale from inside. Plugged it in and BOOM - works like a champ! I am waiting on some fertilizer supplements to come in (as well as pH tester and balancer), but my hope is to grow lettuce (and such) this winter. I have just a regular shoplight over it for now... Use for an old kiddie pool?

It is actually a really BIG kiddie pool, about 8' in circumference and about 4' high. I bought it for my dogs, who hated it, of course. Right now, I am using it for water storage (with a tarp over it) for those times when the well decides to take a day off or my local electric company decides to shut off the power for 4-5 days due to high fire danger. I built a small pond, about ten years ago, and due to neglect, that pond is now a bog. I was thinking about converting this to a pond... Read more ..read more

Using Aquarium Water

I actually have a large turtle tank, and I am wondering if anyone has watered their veggie garden with it. I have not heard too much about turtle water/filter waste to ‘fertilize’ a veggie garden. Turtle water has similar benefits to a fish tank, but they are much messier when compared to a fish tank. Tested the pH, nitrates etc. and they are at acceptable ranges. I am thinking possibly using a 50:50 dilution? New here, love the videos lots of great info. Thanks for any input ..read more

Should have made these a long time ago for the various liquid nutrient tanks i have and both deep water culture and reservoir for flood and drain system made a 4 part float just the give an idea of level of liquid. Later will add extension pieces later to allow for a deeper reach but for now this has a movement range of 3 1/2 inches so bottom of float will start to float up when liquid is within 6 inches of lid. When top hat of shaft is down on top of the body it need... Read more ..read more
