During and after World War II, the United States conducted hundreds of nuclear tests in the American Southwest, mainly Nevada and New Mexico. The radioactive fallout produced by these explosions traveled hundreds of miles, crossing state lines into Arizona and Utah. People who lived and worked in areas exposed to this radiation were more likely to develop cancer and other illnesses. They are known as downwinders. But not all of them are created equal in the eyes of the federal government. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information ..read more

All of this is in a system that doesn't provide constitutionally adequate healthcare. In this episode, Nathan Collins explores the difficulties older prisoners face while incarcerated and what advocates of criminal-justice reform are doing to help.
