Fatty Liver

And I'm not talking about Foie Gras (although apparently I'd be a perfect candidate). I was told by my doctor that my liver is fatty, following an ultrasound of my upper right quadrant, because something in there has been bothering me lately. I wasn't sure if something was really going on or not because all of this started just after my husband passed away from liver cancer in September. I tend to be somewhat of a hypochondriac and have had generalized anxiety disorder for the past 10... Read more ..read more

I used to intermittently fast, but when I got I'll it was driven into me how unhealthy this was. Now it's all the rage my doctors have accepted I am safe to do this again. The most popular form is the two days a week or every other day. I find every other day messes with socialising at weekends, but two, maybe three week days suit me well. As well as starting to lose stubborn weight, I just 'feel better' and eat less on my 'feast days' and notably......I am enjoying food more. I... Read more ..read more

Hi! Potato as base for cream soups?

I saw a few weeks ago a recipe for a cream soup that called for potato as the base for the "cream". By I haven't been able to find the recipe again and all google searches lead to a Cream of Potato soup type of deal <g><sigh>! Does anyone have a recipe for a base such as this, a cream base for soup using just potatoes and, say, butter and spices, etc.? Anything like this? Then one could easily just add mushrooms or broccoli to make each distinctive cream soup. Thanks for any help in... Read more ..read more

Hi, I recently heard rice is very starchy so I don't want to eat it for healthy carbs as I may have mentioned in earlier threads starch/high starch is bad for the teeth like potatoes, so I am avoiding eating brown rice for now. If its true what would you all suggest to replace the brown rice? If it's not true, Then I eventually do want to add it to my food regimen ..read more

I remember when I was a teenager or in my 20s, when I drank anything advertised to be "low sugar" I almost always felt that it wasn't sweet enough. Now, in my mid 30s, I almost always feel that those "low sugar" drinks are sweet enough, or sometimes more than enough. Is it normal or abnormal ..read more

Is it safe and edible to put raw olive oil or uncooked olive oil onto food? If so witch form of olive oil is healthier? I use to go to this restaurant in the local mall near me a couple of times and the food I ordered came with bread as well as olive oil that I would dip the bread in, if i remember right the waiter used raw olive oil straight from the bottle so then that would of been raw i suppose ..read more

Migraine diet

Hi, My husband has been suffering migraine almost all his life and I try my best to support it. After reading many books, I realised that food was a very important trigger. We did the migraine diet, where you remove all the possible triggers and then, week after week, you reintroduce each food to see which one is a real trigger for you. Now, when I can see that migraine could occur (because of stress, sleep deprivation, weather...), I try to cook some special "diet dish". I rely for that on... Read more ..read more
