Yaaay – we had great news today that we have been granted funding from The National Lottery Community Fund. When I saw the subject line Good news- you got the funding I stopped breathing and screamed! Oh my goodness. I am so excited. The Menopause Group CIC are now proud members of the National Lottery Community Project family. This did not happen easily, let me tell you. The story of this success actually started 3 years ago when I was first creating my vision for The Menopause School, whilst writing the Menopause Doula Training Course. My plan of building a global collective of Menopause Do ..read more

The gender health gap is leading to a global healthcare crisis.  Hundreds of years of poor quality, misleading information about female health has resulted in menstruators being unable to make simple choices on how to best manage their hormone health from periods to no periods, and beyond.  In The World Economic Forum, Global Gender Gap Report 2022, based on 146 countries shows, the US ranks 27th, and the UK ranks 22nd in the world overall. In fact, the UK has the largest gender health gap of all countries in the G20! In 2022, the global gender gap has been closed by 68.1%. At the cu ..read more

Menopause: the truth about the signs and symptoms
The Menopause School Blog
by Fiona Catchpowle

There is more to menopause than meets the eye, so let us look at the bigger picture. The perception to many is that menopause means symptoms. In fact, it is very far from the truth. A menstruator may have no symptoms whatsoever, but they will still be traveling in a one-way direction along a hormone continuum, from menarche to the climacteric.  While menopause transition symptoms can be challenging, they are mostly manageable and temporary. [And yes, I have ‘been there done that bought the t-shirt’, so have a complete understanding of how bloody awful the process can be] However … The lon ..read more

Navigating menopause: How one conversation can change lives
The Menopause School Blog
by Fiona Catchpowle

Creating a calm and considerate conversation about menopause, that will benefit both client and holistic therapist is much easier than you think. My main top tip is to not start with menopause, and forget everything you heard about menopause being taboo, stigma, or an ‘issue’. At The Menopause School, we do things differently, and we certainly do not use negative terminology and doom and gloom forecasts. Fact: Menstrual health is the precursor to menopause health. The first rule of menopause school is, we don’t talk about menopause, unless, we talk about menstrual health first. Did you ..read more

Mind, Body, and Menopause: Why Holistic Therapists Need to Be Informed
The Menopause School Blog

The UK has the largest health and education gap in all 20 countries of the G20. Globally learning about female physiology including menstrual and menopause health does not exist in any formal education setting, that I can find. There have been decades of missed opportunities to educate people who menstruate, about the way in which the menstrual cycle affects their basic physical and mental health needs. Knowledge is power, but you can’t manage what you don’t understand. I believe we can change this situation rapidly and simply, by creating menopause-confident people who can start conversatio ..read more

The 5th Vital Sign: Calling dibs!
The Menopause School Blog
by Fiona Catchpowle

Menstrual Health is considered to be the 5th Vital sign – period. If you hop on over to Google and enter “What is the 5th Vital Sign” you see pages and pages of information, books, and Holistic Therapy websites talking about Menstruation, Menstrual Cycle Tracking, and Optimising Fertility within the framework of Menstrual Health, as the 5th Vital sign. In my world of menstrual and menopause health, I checked and double-checked documents, cross-referenced sources, and was happy with the recommended viewpoint that if menstrual health was considered by menstruators and medics as the 5th vital sig ..read more

This month I was delighted to be selected for the 2nd time to be a part of the NatWest Entrepreneur Accelerator Program. The first 6 months went by so fast, that I really wanted to have another chance to take stock of the information from the workshops and utilise all the fantastic business and personal development tools they gave us. 5 things I learned from my Menopause journey
The Menopause School Blog
by Juilee Dandekar

1) No journey is linear: There are days that will be abysmally low and then there are days that are full of gratitude and joy. Menopause will feel exactly like that. While the joy of ‘no period’ might feel good; the mood swings, insomnia, and hot flashes might drive you crazy. Be ready to take each day as it comes – it often does get better, but be ready to get on board the crazy ride. 2) You might feel like a crazy person: The mood swings, fatigue, and irritation might make you wonder if you are going crazy, and if all of this is happening just to you. If there are days, you can’t tolerate th ..read more
