“But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith.” Galatians 3:11 It is interesting how the apostle Paul begins his epistles to different assemblies or individuals by using the words grace and peace. The source of true grace and peace is God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. He is writing to believers in Christ – those who know the Lord Jesus as their Saviour. However, Galatians takes a different character in that it addresses doctrinal matters, even serious doctrinal errors among the people. This doctrinal error is in relation ..read more

Thoughts on Joseph

These notes have been adapted from a Young People’s Zoom online Bible Study in 2021. Joseph is one of the most loved characters in the Old Testament, and with good reason too. The reader, and any who study his life and character will appreciate many similarities to the Lord Jesus Christ. Some thoughts from the Young People’s Bible Study will be brought out here so that you can study more diligently. Joseph has been associated with four houses and he also had four clothes. His father’s house – the cloak of many colours; father loved him, hated, and rejected by his brothers. Potiphar’s house ..read more

Relation Between the Father and the Son

The gospel of John presents to us the relationship between God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son. John 1:18 states that no one has seen God at any time, but also that the Son who is in the bosom of the Father has declared the Father. John 1:1 tells us that in the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God, and the Word was God. In verse 14 the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. This means that the Word, the Lord Jesus Christ, in God and that God was manifested in the flesh in the person of Jesus Christ. The verse in John 1:18 tells us that the relationship between the Son and ..read more

“But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship Him”. John 4:23. What does it mean to worship in spirit and in truth? Does it mean to go to church and worship? Does it mean to worship anywhere? The words above in John 4 are part of a conversation that the Lord Jesus Christ had with a woman from Samaria. The Lord perceived and knew that the woman needed spiritual satisfaction, but He had to gently get her to see the light and the truth. I will not discuss the story or all the lessons here, becaus ..read more

Outline of 2 Corinthians

The apostle Paul’s second letter to the Corinthians has a different characteristic than that of the first letter. The first letter was mainly a correction epistle where Paul had to correct disorderly conduct in the local assembly at Corinth. The Corinthians were believers but were behaving in a carnal manner that the apostle had to use strong language to correct them. Now he was waiting for news from Titus (ch 2:13) before going to visit them again, hopefully they would be in a better condition. The second letter has the character of the ministry of Paul and his apostleship. 2 Corinthians was ..read more

Backsliding and Profession

What does backsliding mean? What does profession mean? What is the difference? What are the characteristics of a backslider and a professor? How do we correctly apply this in the Bible in relation to salvation and our state with God? Are there any examples of backsliders and professors in the Bible? When do we use those terms? This article seeks to answer the above questions with references from the Word of God. I want to be very clear at the outset. I am not judging anyone, and we should never judge and point the finger at anyone to call them a backslider or a professor as this is wrong. It i ..read more

Outline of the Book of Acts

Acts is another very interesting book in the New Testament that is just after the four gospels. The book starts in a similar way to the gospel of Luke, and therefore on that basis we can conclude that this book was written by Luke, who also wrote his gospel. We get some sections in Acts that have ‘we’ in them, suggesting that Luke was with the apostle Paul or others as they were travelling to preach the gospel to the nations. This is another hint that Luke was accompanying them and was the one who write Acts. Luke wrote to the most excellent Theophilus in the introduction of his gospel (Luke 1 ..read more

An Ancient Gospel Message

Has anyone wondered about the meaning of the names in the genealogy of Adam in Genesis chapter 5? Most of us skim quickly through this chapter and miss out on some vital lessons and meanings. It is interesting to note that there are ten people in Adam’s generation commencing from Adam to Noah. When we look at the Hebrew names there is a meaning behind it and we can find a gospel message in this chapter. The first name is Adam, which is simple and means ‘Man’. Seth was Adam and Eve’s appointed one after Abel was brutally killed by Cain, so the name Seth means ‘appointed’. Enosh is the next one ..read more
