Lessons Learned While Unemployed:: Part 2
Trader Dads

Share Trader Dads A common fortune cookie observation attributed to John Maynard Keynes is “Markets can remain irrational longer than you can stay solvent”. This usually applies to capital markets like stocks & fixed income but can equally apply to commodities, retail toy fads or the job market. You may think it’s totally irrational that no one wants to hire you, but until the day comes, you need to find ways to stay solvent and get by until the cash starts flowing again. Me at 1AM stressing over our burn rate A couple of honest tactics we used to help stretch a dollar during lean times ..read more

Share Trader Dads I officially started working again this week after a surprisingly long tenure on the unemployment line. Now, I’m no slouch when it comes to finding a job but this environment felt especially adversarial and baron of opportunity. Turns out, this past interest rate hike cycle ranked as the worst for job cuts and hiring freezes in banking & financial services since the Great Recession of 2008. According to the Financial Times, twenty of the world’s biggest banks cut at least 61,905 jobs in 2023. That compares with more than 140,000 jobs slashed by the same companies during ..read more

Share Trader Dads After 1 week with a new baby, I thought I’d list 10 things I did but books like What to Expect When You’re Expecting fail to mention you’ll be doing during the 1st week with a new baby. Enjoy. Never actually read them It doesn’t say you will: Receive a stream of Jehovah’s Witnesses, JV Baseball Team fundraisers, and Landscaper Solicitors ringing the doorbell, riling up the dog and waking up the kid every day because it’s Spring and you’re a target! Spend 2 hours speaking with your Internet provider to temporarily split your 5GHZ home router spectrum band to a dual 5GHZ ..read more

Thoughts on "Mr. Mom"
Trader Dads
by TraderDads
1M ago
Share Trader Dads It’s been awhile since we did a Dad Movie post so I wanted to come back around to it. Mr. Mom is a 1983 comedy starring a young Michael Keaton. Here’s the full Logline: After he's suddenly laid off, a husband switches roles with his wife. She returns to the workforce, and he becomes a stay-at-home dad. He has to take care of three young children, a job he has no clue how to do Few things hit deeper than a story which mirrors your own life and in real time. Some of the references or moments will hit you like a bolt of lightning on a clear, blue day. So at a time when I t ..read more

Share Trader Dads Purchasing Power Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) is a neoclassic economic idea which states the currency exchange rate between two countries should equalize the price differentials charged for an identical basket of goods in each country. This is a fancy way of saying if an object costs $1 in the United States and a USD/JPY exchange rate is 1:150, then the same object should cost Y150 in Japan. When these theoretical values aligns in the real world, it suggests each market is able to run at an equal productivity level and enjoy a free flowing, frictionless ecosystem where every ..read more
