Cedar Key and Shell Mound are both destroyed after Helene, so @Ninering62 and I are stuck with a few shore fishing places or double the drive time to hit the Atlantic side
However I do have a canoe so niner and I are going to see how car toppable it is for us (16.5' and 90lbs) and then see what we need to do to make it so he can sit and fish in it for a few hours at a time
Taking a collection to fund a gopro 'cause I have a feeling that there will be a few moments worth sharing ..read more

Just got back to the house after dropping off @Ninering62 after a very full day of fishing. Started at home with a 512 wakeup to pee and the thought of "hot damn time to go fishing"
Get to his place about 7, get on the road about 8, and park at Shell Mound at 945, with 2 hours outgoing tide left
I tried wading with my castnet sine fish and shrimp were breaking surface everywhere, lost my crocs, couldnt do a decent net throw and may have well not bothered
Back to car put boots back...

I just saw this, it’s PERRRFECT and I reeeeally want it. I doubt they would part with it ( why would they right ) but I’m going to ask anyway. I just have to.
I’ll be pushing Anonymouscowherd hard to go in halves with me on it.
We can enjoy some wonderful fishing adventures on it & when it’s in dry dock, I’ll be hunting from it too… you know I will too ..read more

Anonymouscowherd took off work yesterday & offered to take me wherever I wanted to go. I wanted to go to the Gulf fishing.
So that’s exactly what we did.
We normally only go when the tides are right & the projected fish bite is at 2/3 or 3/3 which is the highest, bc we have so far to travel to get there & the expense of everything ( especially when we have to buy bait instead of catching our own ) we want as many factors in our favor as we can possibly get.
The weather was beautiful, the...

Late in the summer a buddy and I found an amazing pike fishery on the Mississippi Rivers Lake Pepin only 38 miles from home and we spent several weeks putting the hurt on them. Our preferred bait was a #13 Rapala Scatter Rap Minnow but being pike we soon found them to be darned pricey to be feeding to these large fish when the bit us off. The bait's color was a specific thing too so I went on-line and found an almost perfect replica unfinish bait and bought ten. After dinking with some color...

Hey yall. I was just curious as to how these relatively new weather patterns have effected your local rivers. Pond hoppers and Blessed Lakers chime in as well.
The last two years have been extremely warm for my neck of the woods, Northern Illinois, and our rivers have been getting absolutely choked out with weeds. Good for the fish but frustrating for the dangler. I went out this evening with two fellers from my mail route. Took them to my honey hole for post spawn smallmouth. We have been...

@Ninering62 wimped out on me and opted to stay home and not go fishing....
Got to my spot about an hour before low tide. The cast net was good to me, and I start with a bunch of monster sized mud minnows and some smaller muddies and similar. Put one out on a #2 circle hook planning on catching a sand perch or something for cut bait to use in the crab trap.
Ended up tangling with a 4' shark (spinner, black tip or bull - never really saw enough to figure which of the 3) and lost him...

Mostly my airbrushing of blank baits has focused on color patterns and not so much on detail, but lately I've dug into the world of detail painting and rather enjoy it. I have, however, been sort of unsure of myself with really small bait blanks. I was looking at some pictures with a buddy yesterday of fall fishing trips from a couple years ago and recalled a couple of occasions where the crappies we caught and put in a bucket of water had puked up several 3/4"-1" sunfish fry. I tried a...

@Ninering62 and I went fishin' yesterday (of course!) ...
Here's the one that got away. 5' or so bull shark from what I can tell (note black on edge of tail all the way down to fork)
Mebbe with that sales tax holiday he can afford a few bigger hooks so he can actually get a hook in it instead of playing tug-o-war with a piece of bait....

Well, I had to since Black Crappies are my favorite fish. I'll chose one of these two along with one from the Sunfish and Perch baits I've done to go into a display for our County Fair. If things go well, the next stop will be the State Fair.
