We arrived in Calais yesterday and got straight on the toll road towards Paris. Just after the toll booth the gendarmes were pulling over all small vans and campers / motorhomes for a weight check. Process for those that passed was very simple - roll front then rear wheels onto the weigh bridge. Then they check the weight vs registration document (we were 100kg under thanks to only 20l of water and fuel tank at 1/4 - water was planned due to weight worries, fuel was an unplanned weight... Visitors tax is becoming universal. I guess it is a necessary evil. I hated applying it when I was in the holiday letting business and now I hate paying it. But I accept it. However, as a solo traveller, and this means one person of course, I object to paying for 2 people as a minimum. It means I pay double. There are rules and regulations governing the rates applied. Hi. We have managed to get some Olympic tickets in August and are looking to either camp in or around Paris, or leave the van in a secure car park then stay in Paris centre for a few nights.
