Denver has produced a veritable fuckton of of great metal over the last couple decades but few artists are as prolific as melodic death metal outfit Necropanther. The highly prolific band has put out at least one release every year since 2016—excluding 2017—and are still finding new ways to push themselves. On their latest EP, Oblivion Jones, Necropanther take their thrashy and slightly-blackened take on melodic death metal and infuse it with saxophone courtesy of Rico Jones, bass solos and a number of other new tricks. The latest in a series of experimental EPs written by individual ..read more

It’s exhilarating when you get to hear a band execute a style perfectly. Hand of Kalliach delivers folk-infused melodic death metal in the absolute best way possible. The band brings heavy and rich guitar tones and weaves them with a mix of harsh and melodic vocals, topped off with infectious rhythms and traditional instrumentation. It’s a fascinating combination of aggression and atmosphere — a balancing act between power and mystery that draws you into the band’s sonic realm. Decibel is therefore pleased to present the band’s new video for the song “Fell Reigns,” from their upcoming album Co ..read more

Track Premiere: Karnak Seti – “I Breathe the End’

We love metal from unexpected places. Melodic thrash/death quartet Karnak Seti hail from Madeira Island, which unless you’re an avid oeniphile, probably means nothing to you. Madeira is “an autonomous region of Portugal,” but it’s actually located off the west coast of Africa. Its prime export is a type of fortified wine called Madeira, which has been intentionally oxidized and sort of “cooked” to give it a unique character. If there isn’t a metal-inspired Madeira currently out there, maybe Karnak Seti can strike up a partnership. The track we’re featuring from the quartet—António Jesus (guit ..read more

Oakland, California melodic death/thrash band Glacier Eater are back with their second record, Tempest, out via Glacier Recordings on October 27. Check out the track “Homeward” below, and get stoked for the full release. The record follows their 2015 release, and the band channel sadness and despair through the lyrics and riffs. “Homeward” provides a great preview for the record and the way the band delve into melodic and thrashy tropes without sounding overly rehashed or stereotypical. Instead, they take all the best traits from those genres and make them something new. Guitari ..read more

Even though it was launched in Switzerland during the pandemic, this melodic death metal band—Mikko Voutilainen (vocals), Jani Mikkänen (guitars/vocals), Lauri Unkila (guitars), Oskar Englund (bass), Paul Rytkönen (drums)—is 100% Finnish. The quintet was actually started by Mikkänen in 2020 as a solo project. He eventually brought in a full cast to flesh out his creative endeavor and a couple of subsequent EPs and a debut full-length were issued. Members have come and gone in the meantime, but the above lineup appears on this latest three-song effort, Where the Silence Reigns (again self-relea ..read more

Let’s roll out the blood-red carpet for Indonesian death metal project Celestial. Originally formed as Kill Athena, the band embraced a new name this year. That’s partially because they welcomed new full-time collaborators into the mix: drummer Sobron Haki and bassist Amanda Kusuma. Today we premiere their powerful debut album under the fresh moniker, the grimly titled Broken Vows & the Unspoken Truth. Listen to the whole thing below, ahead of the release from Harsh Productions. “Drifting Through Loss” begins the album with eerie layered vocals and a haze of reverb.
