Oceans of Slumber – Where Gods Fear to Speak Review
Angry Metal Guy » Melodic Death Metal

"Oceans of Slumber has earned one of the more consistently positive receptions on this here blog. With each new release, the band deftly toed the line between maintaining an inimitable voice in the metalverse and continuously exploring the limits of their sound. This uncommon willingness to evolve bears the mark of true artistry. And furthermore, through every permutation of their music—regardless of how the public received it—Oceans of Slumber carved itself a niche in the metal canon." The gods may fear to speak, but Kenstrosity ain't afraid of anyone. The post Oceans of Slumber – Where Gods ..read more

"Sticky Filters make things go off-kilter. When you scrub and grease, you end up with workplace peace. We cleaned off the June grime so you can have a good time!" These blurbs are out of control and I am going to launch an extended investigation into ending this nonsense. - AMG The post Stuck in the Filter: June 2024’s Angry Misses appeared first on Angry Metal Guy ..read more

Eldermoon – Egregora Review
Angry Metal Guy » Melodic Death Metal
by Angry Metal Guy

"One of the best ways for an unknown band to pique a potential listener's interest is to promise an immersive story. Eldermoon, a fiery new band from Curitiba, Brazil, attempts this tactic with debut album Egregora. The narrative is told by an omniscient entity called the Moon who watches the various stages of human existence—encapsulated in each of the 10 tracks—without interference or judgment. The band was even committed enough to write detailed track-by-track summaries of each chapter as part of the promo materials. However, any album that tells a story must also offer quality music if it ..read more

God Dethroned – The Judas Paradox Review

by Dear Hollow

"I got saddled with God Dethroned even though I'm not entirely sure what my qualifications are. I really liked Under the Sign of the Iron Cross, which I didn't even realize was part of a war-themed trilogy, so I had to race through a crash course in the Dutch death metallers. While they peaked in the late '90s with The Grand Grimoire and Bloody Blasphemy and encountered a resurgence with the World War I trilogy, the act has truly never made a bad album. As such, the lesser in quality maintain a better simmer than the high heat of much of death metal's legions." Usurpation s ..read more

Deliver the Galaxy – Bury Your Gods Review
Angry Metal Guy » Melodic Death Metal
by Steel Druhm

"It turns out space really is the final frontier. While topics like the nothingness of death, religion, and romantic predilections of the cadaverific kind will always be reliable tropes, space has long revealed itself to be the most tonally diverse of the metal fixations, with music to celebrate its infinite beauties as much as its unknowable (and very knowable) horrors. German melodeath outfit Deliver the Galaxy is poised to drop their third offering, Bury Your Gods, to expound on the 'exciting idea that humanity is not alone in the universe.'" Watch the skies. Thermality – The Final Hours Review

"Envy is a powerful drug. At no point does it give me any kind of high, and yet once I get a hit of it, I have a difficult time letting it go. Whether it be someone who inspires me to improve a skill or talent I already have, or someone who just can do something I as of this moment can't, seeing artists accomplish feats that I struggle to fathom leaves me in a murk of awe, admiration, and envy, all in equal measure. Enter Swedish melodic death metal band Thermality, comprised of five kids who are all at least a decade younger than me right now, as they release their sophomore record The Final ..read more

Tyraels Ascension – Hell Walker Review

"We’ve had a pretty wide variety in album-complementing media over the years. I’ve personally dealt with a graphic novel where all the text was the lyrics of the album, and an album where every track got a music video which combined into a short film. More than a few bands have released novellas to accompany the music, such as Rush and Coheed and Cambria. But this is the first time I’ve run into a band releasing a video game counterpart to their new record. Tyraels Ascension has big plans for their debut Hell Walker, and one of those plans is this game, to be released in parallel on Steam." Mu ..read more

Asenblut – Entfesselt Review
Angry Metal Guy » Melodic Death Metal
by Steel Druhm

"Steel Druhm Himself and Holdeneye see eye to...eye on many metal-related issues. We gravitate toward the same styles and share an appreciation for plenty of bands across the metal spectrum. It's not all Kumbaya though, no Sireebob.  I could not have agreed less with his loving review of cheese-tastic faux-Manometal act All for Metal. They're like an even more ridiculous version of the already super ludicrous Brothers of Metal, and I couldn't stomach the lactose overload their music flung in all directions like cheap beer at an 80s thrash-fest. Imagine then my primal shock when I grabbed ..read more

Act of Creation – Moments to Remain Review
Angry Metal Guy » Melodic Death Metal
by Dr. A.N. Grier
2M ago
Germany’s Act of Creation has been around for over a decade yet it seems no one around these parts has ever heard of them. After looking into their discog and history, they’ve been down an interesting road in the last fourteen years—specifically regarding vocalists. The vocals were handled by male voices for the band’s first three releases, with the occasional guest vocalist(s). Twenty-twenty’s The Uncertain Light saw them shift to a female vocalist, Jess, who is by far their best vocalist to date. Unlike acts like Opera IX, who transitioned from the mighty vocals of their female counterpart t ..read more
