I am thrilled to review American Heritage Letters – a unique way to explore the rich history and beautiful geography of the United States. I was given an assortment of letters to review, because there are a lot of historical letter companies, and sometimes you want to see what’s inside the envelope!
Studying History through letters: Meet Heritage letters
What intrigued me about Heritage Letters is that they are created by a homeschool family - headed by Julie, a former elementary educator.
Her family loves visiting historical sites and re- living history events, and share this passion th ..read more

What is dual language vs. bilingual?
Dual language means teaching a percentage of the same material in your target language. This can of course be your home language. I am using Spanish as an example because that is my second language, and what I am most familiar with speaking and using.
Dual Language is presenting vocabulary and work in your known language and target language. I keep dual language studies in my shop that focus on vocabulary acquisition - simple words that are high frequency on a nature study theme, in particular.
Bilingual is very similar to dual language. However, bilingual ..read more

Curriculum & Philosophies of Education
Curriculum is a course of study, and a course of study where it is determined what should be taught and how it should be taught.
You may want to author the curriculum entirely. You may want to purchase it all outright and use it as intended. You need to know what curriculum is and what to look for in a curriculum. Once you get through the 5 steps to start homeschooling and how to approach getting started, it’s helpful to know educational philosophies.
Two schools of thought
Educational philosophies begin based on two schools of thought.

I love stocking stuffers, but as my kids get older, we really do try to get less small toys underfoot. These are some classic stocking stuffers that have been crowd pleasers in our home, or still are year after year. When used responsibly, I love technology. I think it is how our world works (all my work is done on a computer or phone), and I don't mind my kids learning to use tech in a safe and discerning way.
My husband also really likes playing games and such with them, so it is a family activity. I don’’t often partake since I’m terrible at video games, but I do have a hand in stewarding how they use technology and what technology they’re allowed access to.

When it comes to Spanish language gifts it’s nice to meet two guidelines:
It is something my children will enjoy?
The gift serves a purpose - whether that be learning the target language, or having fun in the target language I don’t want something that will collect dust.
We do buy our kids more than just educational items (Let’s be honest, I am THAT mom) but we will have more gift guides this week for Gaming & Technology, Homeschool Organization, and more!

Learning & Teaching Spanish
I am not a native Spanish speaker. Spanish is my second language. I have written some resources for Spanish instruction because I saw a need in the homeschool community for resources, and they tend to coincide with our science and nature studies.
I also have chosen to write resources that make sense to me for my children, which are fun phonics based activities or high frequency vocabulary word studies that go with our other studies.
How I learned Spanish
My mom is Colombian, and Spanish is my second language. I remember how I learned, which is a classic (and le ..read more

Do you love reading? Are you intimidated by the classics, or do you have favorites you have been waiting to introduce your children to? I’ve made it my goal to write classic literature unit studies, and The Wind in the Willows by Kenneth Grahame was my first pick!
These studies will launch first in Book Clubs, and then on my website! You can find the Wind in the Willows on the site HERE.
Why read Classics?
The classics are classics for a reason, and the reasons are not mysterious. Classics are well crafted stories that offer emotional connection for the reader, and catharsis at the end of ..read more
