It’s easy to get carried away with lighting and think more is better, but sometimes it’s good to strip everything back to basics and see what can be achieved with a single light. Muscle is notoriously challenging to light well. After what feels like a very long winter break, it’s great to kick off shooting weddings for 2023.  Newark Town Centre makes a lovely venue for a relaxed wedding. Over time your photography style changes slightly. New equipment can mean ‘old workarounds’ are no longer a necessity, your experience means you may overcome challenges in a slightly different way, and you have fresh ideas that are a new and exciting challenge. For this session we headed to a local spot in the town centre just outside of Mansfield. Mum has said all the kids were ‘sporty’ so we decided to go with an ‘urban sport’ theme … cue lots of basketball! It’s not often we’ve had lovely weather this summer, so when it was forecast to be warm & sunny we decided to make the most of it with Louie. We headed into town went for a wander. We explored around the canals, into the fields and around the parks. It’s not often I cover weddings beyond the East Midlands, so it’s always lovely to be asked to photograph somewhere further afield.  Amy & Jordan contacted me to ask if i’d be able to cover their wedding in Surrey after hearing lots of nice recommendations from friends & colleagues. After a ‘rocky’ couple of covid years for weddings, 2023 finally feels like we’re back to some level of normality. It’s for this reason I must apologise for the lack of updates recently – its been a busy summer to say the least! People often ask if they’re able to bring pets along to an outdoor family session and my answer is always ‘Yes!’. It’s always a challenge shooting sessions outdoors at the start of the year – the days are cold & dark, and the weather unpredictable!  Some customers are still happy to go ahead and battle the elements, but most prefer to retreat indoors to the warmth of studio sessions. For 2023 I decided to use the ‘cold time’ to offer studio days across the country; locations included Preston, Leicester, Birmingham, Manchester, Nottingham and Hertfordshire.
