Ok look, listen ~taps mic, gets on soap box~ I just really need to get this off of my chest I DON'T CARE that Rachel Dolezal passed herself off as an African-American woman. The bottom line is the woman was uncomfortable with who she was. Aren't we all sometimes? Can you honestly say there is nothing that you wouldn't change about yourself? Don't we all have that ONE caucasian friend who just SWEARS that he's african-american and you KNOW his name is Billy and his mom's name is Susie? Personally, I have a TON of things that I would like to change about myself but my race is not one of them ..read more

By Melissa of Trials and Tresses 2014 was a tough year in general, and an even tougher year to be in an interracial relationship. With the social unrest, scrutiny, and judgment at an all time high, even jokes from friends felt like sharp jabs. But I digress… let me start from the beginning. The natural hair movement is a constant source of new knowledge. There is always some innovation waiting around the corner to be discovered. As a naturalista for nearly three years I believed I had a pretty good grasp on the basics of natural hair care.  Or so I thought. It wasn’t until I entered an i ..read more

My blow dry technique stays the same but I like to change up my products to experiment I loved the results of this twistout! It was literally one of the fluffiest twistouts i've ever had! Please don't let me find this woman's instagram! While working in the service industry, small business owners sometimes run the risk of being bamboozled by clients who try to wiggle out of paying. One Louisiana hair stylist by the name of Crystal Collins recently became a hot topic of social media discussions for cutting out a little girl’s braids after it began to seem like the girl’s mother wasn’t going to pay her. She then posted photos of the child on Instagram—a decision that attracted mixed opinions. “One thing I don’t play about is my money. I try to be patient with ..read more

Relaxer Sales On The Decline Due To Natural Hair Movement

by StrawBerriCurls

Oh snap! Sounds like we are hitting the relaxed market pretty hard. I've seen a great increase of natural hair amongst african american women but as I always say, I'm pro-healthy and not some militant natural. According to PermedtoNatural.com, natural hair is on a significant rise and with it, a massive decline in relaxers. The sales decline in hair relaxers/perms are steadily dropping. Black women are coming around to realizing that maintaining a natural head of hair is healthier than applying harsh chemicals that many have said, “burns their brain.” A recent article in Beauty Store Busi ..read more
