The summer has slipped by, and I have barely blogged. I’ve let a few things slide as my fatigue levels and some of my physical problems are getting worse. However, I want to make more of an effort again. I miss blogging, sharing my thoughts with you and some excerpts from my books. Today, I’d like to share an excerpt from On Bur Oak Ridge, the third book in my Sheltering Trees series. I am celebrating one year in print this month. It doesn’t seem like it’s been a year! It seems a lot longer than that. I thought I’d share an excerpt from the book in the perspective of one of the main character ..read more

The cast of characters for my upcoming historical mystery novel, By Broken Birch Bay, revolves around two sisters, Honey and Petra. Besides writing in the sisters’ perspectives, I also write in the perpetrator’s perspective. The person who commits the crime remained faceless and anonymous for me until the very end. Look over the images below to read about the three of them and their thoughts early on in the novel. Some of my other characters include : Luke Livingston, Petra and Honey’s father A parent should never play favorites, but Luke seems to favor Honey, though Petra is actually more lik ..read more

Petra’s Budding Romance

Often in the quotes I share from my books, I tend to choose dramatic ones that have conflict rather than romantic ones. But today I thought I’d give you just a little flavor of Petra’s budding romance with Don, a local fisherman and a frequent customer at the café Petra works at. These quotes come from the ninth chapter in my soon to be released whodunit novel, By Broken Birch Bay. Petra is rather gun shy when it comes to relationships. She had previously trusted her heart to a man who left broke it, leaving her expecting his child and alone. Now, back home in Broken Birch Bay Petra is loweri ..read more

I promised to share a little bit about one of my main characters, Honey, in my upcoming historical mystery, By Broken Birch Bay. Honey is tall, blonde, mild mannered and almost the exact opposite of her sister, Petra. The sisters had grown up close, but when Petra had moved away, a part of Honey had gone with her. Excerpt August 1924 Broken Birch Bay For the hundred-millionth time, Honey sent up a prayer of gratitude for Petra being back at home. Honey had grieved when her sister had left eight years ago. Petra had firmly stated, “I’m moving on to bigger and better things than what our quiet ..read more

Image under copyright It’s “To Quote Tuesday.” I made this card up to go with a collection of note cards I’ll be giving away in my Facebook group, Journeying with Jenny, when On Bur Oak Ridge releases on July 29th. The note cards will feature photos I took from around the farm we live one—and that I set the novel on. It’s often difficult to see how good things can come from painful circumstances. In this excerpt from On Bur Oak Ridge, Molly reminisces about her opera vocal training and singing with a clear voice and without pain. FACT: I considered pursuing a career in opera at one point. My novella, Violet’s Vow is on tour this month. On today’s stop–and with a healthy dose of imagination–my main character, flower shop owner Violet Brooks, is chatting with author Amy Walsh on her blog in her character cafe. Do you ever wonder what it’s like to work in a flower shop? Well, read on for a little bit about my time as a designer working in a local flower shop. In my upcoming novella Violet’s Vow, I drew from my experiences in writing the flower shop scenes in Violet’s shop, Fragrant Sentiments.  My Flower Shop Days: I greatly enjoyed working with flowers and getting to create beautiful arrangements. I especially took fulfillment in creating unique pieces for funerals. Often, I prayed as I designed them, for the families who were grieving the loss of their loved ones and for the one who had passe ..read more
