Wondering if anyone with experience can give me some guidance on getting a starter DSLR camera for my HS-age daughter to begin using for a photography class? The goal would be to use it as a hobby for me too, as I enjoyed both taking and developing well into the 1990's. I looked briefly on Amazon and I think Canon is still my go to, but I could be convinced otherwise by someone knowing better. Generally, I saw that Nikon was more pricey, but I know they seem to be the favorite - or one of... Read more ..read more

Longshot - I'm looking for firmware for a Canon Vixia HF10 - 1.03 version. Canon has discontinued support and it seems like they gleaned the web of all of all instances. Just wondering if anybody has downloaded and managed to keep a copy. Thank you ..read more

I have high end Japanese kitchen knives from Seki Japan. It is important to maintain their edge, and to know if is time to send them to a professional sharpening service for a regrind. My iPhone 14 Pro Max with its 15X digital zoom, and with post processing can do the job. However I cannot focus at the close range need to see anything clearly, you can see this in the photo below of a KCF 180mm Gyuto. is there app or technique to that I can do to fix this. The 14 Pro Max has a 14 megaPixel... Read more ..read more

What are you using for photo processing

I was curious what you all were using for photo processing. I used Aperture for many years and then went with little known Raw Power, a Mac app that's relatively inexpensive and developed by one of the Aperture founders. I've been testing ON1 for a few days and am finding it pretty powerful. I'm limiting my pay as you go software and ON1 is stand alone only, no monthly payment. So what are you using for photo processing/library ..read more

Would it be possible to pin this thread, devoted to black and white? The topic Black and White has been posted in several scattered threads, and I just realized I posted the pictures below of Tony on the drums to a thread that specifically stated "1993 ..read more

Bad news is my external drive ate stuff and died. Good news, it was "mostly backed-up". Have all my raw files and some finished. New drive on the way that will be filled with the backup's CR2 raw files, then converted to Adobe DNG so they match what was on the dead drive and Lightroom will see them. Investigating data recovery services to get what wasn't backed up, and would love to know who has had good experiences and with which outfit ..read more

It is time to replace and upgrade my 10 year old Canon Powershot S30 Digital pocket camera. It has served me very well over the years and it still works fine but it is dated. Research and a lot of reading has led me to the Nikon S9100 or the Canon SX230HS as the top contenders. I keep waffling back and forth but I think that I have settled on the Canon -- at least for the moment. (See what I mean?) My primary interests in having a pocket size camera is, of course, reliability and overall... Read more ..read more

Found this on the 'color of the week' sale at SalArmy. Surprisingly appears to have never been used. GN: 105, 4 Auto Ranges, Auto/Manual Modes. Horizontal and vertical Bounce, manual Zoom head. Normal, Wide and Tele diffuser panels. Audible ready signal that can be on or off in addition to the 3 range LED's. PC sync cable.
