Kodachrome Basin

I wasn't sure where to post this, but since it's by and large a photo, this wins the turkey. This started out as a printout of an infrared shot of Kodachrome Basin, with Kodak HIE film. I printed it out on plain white copy paper and first made a gelatin "skin" like the one I described here, but this time, after I coated the image with a couple of layers of gel medium, I painted it. I just bought a set of Golden Open acrylics, they are touted as being slow drying, and I thought... Read more ..read more

Inkjet print - hand painted!

Not that it's super important, but I've wanted to be able to use my original Marshall's Photo Oils again for hand painting B&W images, for many years. These photo oils were designed and intended for use on silver gelatin prints from a darkroom. I have darkroom equipment that I've been unable to set up in my last 2 homes due to space restrictions. Typical inkjet prints, even from a photo printer using pigmented inks, don't accept these oils as the paper usually grabs the medium and... Read more ..read more

I got a pleasant surprise when I happened to look at the underside of the mould for the right leg of my bird feeder sculpture. The pieces of foam board that make up the mould form a completely unplanned (but not random) design that reminded me of some of Ben Nicholson’s work. Here are some zoomed in areas. The edges have an interesting texture ..read more

Hi All, I'm Ned and I'm here at CreativeSpark mostly because I am learning to sketch and the folks here in the "scavenger hunt from life" are so friendly and wonderful, they make it really fun. I'm also a photographer, mostly practicing very old-fashioned kinds of photography, and I also enjoy making prints of various kinds. I recognize Terri from the photrio forum. I was thinking of posting some of the prints I'm making here... and was thinking of posting all of them ( good... Read more ..read more

Point Pelee park - infrared (expired HIE)
Creative Spark » Photography and Film

The hubby and I took a few days off to head into Canada, where Point Pelee National Park is an easy destination. The weather was still hot, so I carried along a roll of expired (expiration: 2009!) Kodak HIE infrared film. Long discontinued. I haven't shot any since we moved across the country and I've been fretting that being out of the freezer for that time would have affected it. But - yay! I used a #25 red filter and developed it in TMax 1:4 for about 7 minutes, and I was... Read more ..read more

I enjoy old photos that were retouched with paint. So I decided to give it try. This is my first successful attempt. I kept it simple to see how the watercolor would stick on the flat photo surface. Please feel free to post similar work. Words of advice will be greatly appreciated ..read more
