Hi as title I was in middle of getting a porcelain patio layed, then I was going to grass seed whole area, however I questioned the haunching.
It comes out from my edging blocks at least 50 to 60mm wide, possibly more I never measured, and is square not angled, and is 40mm below the edging, (finished height of patio,) at the bottom is top soil although hard to see and was covered with tarpaulin to suppress weeds until I'm ready to seed.
I said what is the purpose of the haunching being so...

Hi guys - another decking question.
When building the frame for the decking, as per the picture attached, what is the purpose of the frame joists screwed either side of the posts at the 2 sides and down the middle? Is it to save using so many posts to support the joists?
My decking will be 6m x 6m. I was going to simply fix the outer frame to the posts, and then run joists perpendicular to the decking all the way across supported by a post every 1.5m. Is this ok or should I adopt the...

Hi guys,
Ive seen page after page on google advising decking to slope 1cm per m, however these all mention it in context of being built against a house.
I am about to build decking at the bottom of my garden (6m x 6m). Does it need to be sloped or can it be level considering it isnt against the house?
Thanks ..read more

Hi all
The house we purchased came with decking and sleepers already present. No idea how old and no idea what type of wood used. See picture below:
Having read up online and other threads, for the decking the best options seem to be... any people have experience with for older decking?
- Liberon clear decking oil
- Barrattine Decking oil (really like how this came out, but will it work with older weathered decking?)
- Lineseed oil (boiled so it hardens faster)
Can the...

Hi All,
I'm currently in the process of building my own garden room for the wife (pub shed for me).
I've just finished the base and have added Kingspan 100mm insulation boards to the floor, I'm just looking for some advice for the walls? I'm putting 18mm OSB3 boards on the outside of the shed and also on the base.
I'll be studding the wall with 3x2 @ 400mm centers.
What would you recommend for insulating the walls?
I can get my hands on some cheap 75mm Dritherm 37 Cavity Insulation, I...

I shall be constructing a 1.2 metre high feather board fence soon.
Do the feather boards sit on the gravel board with the gravel board taking their weight or do the nails bear all the weight with the gravel board merely making it look neat ?
The reason I ask is because when I walk around looking at fencing in my neighbourhood quite often I see the feather boards slightly clear of the gravel board and sometimes not even underneath anymore.
As this is a first attempt, any tips would be very...

Hi, We have had an extension and now we want to lay a patio. I have done patios and driveways at my previous 3 houses but certainly not text book (broken flags punnered in and concreted poured around and over. Then flags spotted on top. So what most would consider a bodge but maybe due to look they have never sunk or cracked. I am very much a simple diyer but I wanted a project outside for the summer and I am quite happy digging and barrowing back and too for some excercise.
I am trying...

I'm curious!
I have a BMC Wolf electric Machines brand, very similar to this.
It does not work well. The bottom of the spindle rotates forward but in my opinion, the spindle bottom should rotate towards the collector box at the rear so the moss and any lawn clippings are thrown into the collector.
There's a vent underneath for the motor at the front of the body to blow air out downwards. The blown air would be better directed towards the collector box to help push that scarified...
