Frustration over not being able to work my true passion (and redemption) outdoors, I found unexpected peace and blissful distraction by applying myself to ornamental and flowering shrubbery to brighten the yard. An unwillingness to let go of fading stars and a desire to approach next year with a roar motivated my purchase of a large walk in greenhouse which proved insufficient to accommodate all. I'm currently dealing with powdery mildew and have been for a month or so.  Really, it's expected living in an area that has high humidity during the growing season, and started later than normal this season. The PM started on my cucumber vines, and has started showing up on the zucchini, as well as my buttercup squash.  I have been spraying all of my cucumber, squash and melon vines / bushes regularly, since it started (a mix of water, baking soda, and liquid castle soap). I have some areas around trees and such that I'd like to not weed... I've been using cardboard which has been quite successful. Are there any different options? I'd like to lay some brick for a fire pit, and surround the base of a few trees with brick. Anything I should do before hand to prevent weeding in the future ..read more

Just starting the thread, can give more information as needed, and I'll grab pictures as I continue my work, but I'm basically trying to overhaul my lawn, I have some seed and fert on hand, some tools, some peat, waiting on a dethatcher. I need some help as to where to start and what to focus on, the whole place is kinda wrote off. Right now I've just been raking, picking all rocks, weeds, cleaning up edges and looking for foreign objects. I've used a pointy roller to disturb some areas...
