Plant advice - plenty of sun

We've just cleared a modest border of pervasive weeds, until they come back, we dug out a fair few large rocks so we used them to divide the border up and allow for the addition of more topsoil to raise the border or part of it up to nearly the height of the path behind to the front door. This masks ugly foundations of the path and the new, graded topsoil will be better than the old soil which was lowered by all the weed roots removed. The area gets full sun almost all day. The border is... Read more ..read more

Mixing emulsion question.

Hi, I've just emulsioned 2 rooms and I've underestimated the amount of paint needed for the walls. One room is done in tough and washable emulsion and the other has had 1 coat of it but there's not enough left for another coat. Will it be o.k to mix the remainder with another white matt emulsion without any strange issues like bubbling etc? I don't want to buy another tin really at this point. Or would you just emulsion over with standard white matt emulsion? Thanks ..read more

My work laptop has microphone and camera disabled I thought but during a meeting with a USB headset the laptop microphone system tray symbol said there were many users connected to it as in 60 plus during a Skype meeting with many people. The number didn't match the number in the meeting BTW. This laptop has higher security than most companies due to industry involved and we only use approved company supplied peripherals. All connections are via VPN and there's an encryption on the hard... Read more ..read more

A bit of a basic or noob question, but what do you use for mixing and storing fertiliser used for small batches like houseplants? I have a very modest cacti collection and this year I'm looking at caring for them a bit better. I've repotted a few into cacti and succulent compost, more free draining. Now I'm looking at fertiliser. I've got a cacti concentrate fertiliser I need to dilute, half capful per litre. So I'll not use the full litre but need to store it for the next feed. What... I have an infestation of very tiny ants. Mainly in the kitchen. Thay appear 'anywhere' (dont know the source) so I can't be putting powder** down......especially on work surfaces. I had them last year and put those flat round ones down. The ones I used were from Screwfix. I put 3 down but they had no effect.....I didn't see a single and visit them. **I had ants in the porch and sprinkled powder down and that quickly worked but as I say, these are in the kitchen. I have sprinkled a small... Read more ..read more

Team; I have an up and coming project for the summer, or at least a period of nicer weather. My house has small porch over the front hallway and downstairs loo. The house is a 1999-2001 built job with timber facias and soffits. The roof is pitched with Marley tiles (approx 30) over traditional bitumen type felt, there are no gutter tray / eves protectors. This small roof has had no work since being built (other than a small amount of pointing around the flashing). There is no internal... Read more ..read more

Advice appreciated please. I've been googling all afternoon but all results seem to differ. I've got a Denon AVR receiver and 2 floor standing speakers. I use it for telly and music. I've now just got a powered subwoofer. Only problem is I can't seem to get the crossovers set to a good level. Can anyone suggest what the crossovers should be set for the speakers and the sub? I tried speakers lpf set at 120hz and the sub at 80 but it doesn't sound natural like in my car. To be honest I don't... Read more ..read more
