From Tijuana, Mexico, Habak exploded onto the DIY scene with what they describe as “crust melódico” – emotionally charged music that blazes a path through crust, screamo, and post-metal. Debut album Insania, originally released in 2015, captures the intensity of the band’s early days, melding aggressive Tragedy-inspired d-beat with dark moments of melody that bring to mind contemporaries like Envy or Pageninetynine. Insania (Remastered) by Habak Sung in Spanish, vocalist Alejandra Valdez’s lyrics touch on themes of mental anguish, isolation, and hopelessness. Guitarist Juan Cintora states: “Ma ..read more

Madrid’s own SVDESTADA shook the foundations of the crust punk and blackened post hardcore with their latest album “Candela.” Since their inception, the band has been a beacon of innovation, steering clear of the well-trodden paths of revivalism. “Candela” is their testament to this ethos, a seven-track saga that delves into the harrowing landscapes of the human psyche. Candela by Svdestada The band, comprising seasoned musicians, channels a maelstrom of influences, creating a sound that is at once familiar and startlingly new. From the opening strains of ‘Nudo’ to the closing notes of the tit ..read more

Brace yourselves, crustcore fanatics! Victoria BC’s Raw War, a once dormant force in the realms of hardcore crust, has reignited the flames of anarchy and decimation with their latest auditory assault, “Tsar Bomba“, a cataclysmic revival of a band that embodied the raw, untamed spirit of the Pacific Northwest’s underground scene from 2009 to 2013. Raw War, a name synonymous with lawlessness and an apocalyptic vibe, tore through stages with a nuclear-powered ferocity. Total Raw War by RAW WAR Influenced by the aggressive ethos of UK D-beat and anarcho-punk legends like Doom and Discharge, and c ..read more

Amidst the raucous, unapologetic realms of d-beat, crust punk, and stoner metal, Seanaldinho from North Carolina emerges as a harbinger of a profound, introspective odyssey. His latest work, “Bastoni,” released on the indie label Mindpower Records, transcends the traditional boundaries of an EP. It’s a manifesto, a philosophical exploration set against a backdrop of relentless, yet quite accessible soundscapes. Bastoni by Seanaldinho Crafted by the hands and heart of Sean, the mind behind Seanaldinho, “Bastoni” comes as a cerebral journey. Sean delves into the symbolism of the Sicilian tarocch ..read more

Colombia has become a powerhouse of hardcore festivals in recent years. It’s hard to say why, or pinpoint a specific catalyst moment, but the trend can be clearly seen on the tour schedules of North American bands heading south of Mexico. It probably started with the ease at which artists can skip down from Florida and back without blowing a travel budget, combine that with the low cost of living in Colombia and you have a pretty stable jaunt for small and mid-stage bands who are clamouring to get into any international market. But Colombia is something more than just ..read more

After his previous long running project, Meinhof broke up, Jarek felt that the void it created, the lack of ability to express himself both musically and in a message was too unbearable. So he formed a new band, raw d-beat Japenese hardcore infused Tystvar, but it wasn’t enough. Hungry for more creative endeavours, he started to think about some other form to express himself, a project that would be a kind of solo expression of his musical and lyrical expression. That’s how MORTAR got into existence. Mortar is a natural continuation of Jarek’s path he took in the 90s with ..read more

In the dimly lit corridors of the alternative music scene, where the echoes of past rebellions still haunt the air, Sweden’s Ett Dödens Maskineri are not just playing their instruments; they are sounding a clarion call. Their latest offering, “Högerspöket,” is not merely a song but a narrative, a reflection of shadows from a bygone era that somehow still stretch into our present, as though time has looped upon itself. The band remarks, “Conservative thoughts and old murky ideals are once again brought to life as the ghosts of a bygone era return… The political climate is darkened by the ..read more

In 1991, I turned 18 and I began living in Allston, Massachusetts. I had spent the prior three years incarcerated for reasons proven illegitimate in 2013. One day, I met a guy at the train station passing out stickers for some band called Toxic Narcotic. I first saw Toxic Narcotic play live when they opened for The Exploited, Biohazard and Type O Negative in October of 1990. At some point I mail-orded a copy of their demo tape ‘Wunt Dunt Dunt’ It raged! In the winter of 1991, I rented a room in a house with their drummer. I never ..read more
