Alan Palomo – “World of Hassle”
Everything Is Noise » Nu Jazz
by David Rodriguez

World of Hassle is the sexy, light-hearted, neon-embossed, fantastical getaway I always knew Alan Palomo was capable of making, and yet I’m still surprised at how great it is Release date: September 15, 2023 | Mom+Pop | Facebook | Instagram | Stream/Purchase Eight years ago, a music project named Neon Indian dropped an album named VEGA INTL. Night School. I didn’t know it at the time, but it was destined to alter my life for the better. Upon discovery, which wasn’t long past release and I think thanks to a positive review from The Needle Drop back when I watched him, I was absolutely ena ..read more

FLOCKS – “You Were Probably Younger Then”
Everything Is Noise » Nu Jazz
by Gary
11M ago
You Were Probably Younger Then is a wonderful marriage of jazz and electronica that excites from Chicago three-piece FLOCKS. Release date: August 5, 2022 | Folded Music | Bandcamp | Facebook | Instagram Joining the Everything Is Noise team just under a year ago was one of my better choices – not just because it is an excellent bunch of people, but I’ve really managed to delve into musical areas that I probably wouldn’t have bothered with in the past. Interestingly though, jazz in all its forms remains a largely untouched genre for me despite the love it has amongst the team. In shor ..read more

Glass Museum – “Reflet”
Everything Is Noise » Nu Jazz
by Robert Miklos
11M ago
One of the finer bands in nu-jazz graces our ears with a sweet collection of fresh sounds. Release date: April 29, 2022 | Sdban Records | Facebook | Bandcamp I have been very much looking forwards for the sequel to Reykjavik, which I reviewed a couple of years ago. Now I can stop wondering and daydreaming and start telling you why Reflet is awesome and totally worth the wait. I have to be honest – I was not expecting this kind of shift in musical aim from Glass Museum, but it’s very well-executed and, of course, it sounds just lovely. Sure, Reykjavik and Deux had a firm background in jaz ..read more

We broke the weather Flood Us With Sonic Goodness
Everything Is Noise » Nu Jazz
by Robert Miklos

You know, 2021 really spoiled us, in terms of musical output that is. Because, really, in every other aspect it was a total shit-show. 2022 seems to be continuing this trend, albeit with less nonsense. Anyway, today I’ll reinforce this statement with a clear example which also relates to the overall high quality of the musical output of bands everywhere. we broke the weather will be treating us with a full stream of their newest record, a good four days before the actual release date. Their self-titled debut is absolutely packed to the brim with all sorts of awesome things. Do you like old ..read more

Milton Man Gogh – “The Great Reset”
Everything Is Noise » Nu Jazz
by Robert Miklos
11M ago
Get ready for some of the best jazz of 2021 on The Great Reset. Although, that may be an understatement. Release date: November 12, 2021 | Art As Catharsis | Bandcamp | Facebook | Website I’m not even going to go on the full, larger-than-life-size rant about how underrated this band is because this is neither the place to do it, nor do I really have the stamina anymore for that kind of stuff. That being said, Milton Man Gogh are criminally underrated. They put some of the finest modern jazz fusion you could imagine on the table. It’s as simple as that. Going through their backlog of work ..read more

BADBADNOTGOOD – “Talk Memory”
Everything Is Noise » Nu Jazz
by Robert Miklos

BADBADNOTGOOD? More like GOODGOODNOTBAD, am I right? Excuse the cheap pun, but it will all make sense at the end of this review. Release date: October 8, 2021 | XL Recordings | Facebook | Bandcamp If you haven’t yet been acquainted with BADBADNOTGOOD, I suggest you fix that as soon as possible. There’s really nothing like them out there in the modern jazz-adjacent scene(s). Their unique approach, that leans heavily into groove, is something truly infectious and will have you moving one way or another, whether you want to or not. While I was very excited to hear that a new album was on th ..read more

With where I am living, we’re finally out of that ‘are we still going to get snow or not’ pseudo-spring season, at least I hope so… My home state is also doing well on its overall vaccinations and COVID restrictions will be lifting soon, so things are looking hopeful here, for once. Given how mentally and emotionally draining these past 18 months have been on all of us, we owe it to ourselves to relax and enjoy the summer as much as we can, while still being cautious and safe of course. What better way to start that off than with a smooth and relaxing soundtrack to kickstart and celebrate ..read more

A SCENE IN RETROSPECT: Jaga Jazzist – “A Livingroom Hush”
Everything Is Noise » Nu Jazz
by Dominik Böhmer
11M ago
Let’s keep it short and simple today; it’s not like Jaga Jazzist need any formal introduction anyway, at least not among those tuned into modern jazz music. Counting other innovators like The Mars Volta among their fanbase, this eclectic ensemble has been (re-)shaping the face of jazz for well over 20 years now, and their 2001 release A Livingroom Hush is where they really hit their stride. Inter Jaga Jazzist were almost there. For me, at least. Even before I got into jazz or electronic music, the band was on high rotation for me. Back then, I had just recently discovered post-rock an ..read more
