The term ‘Time Rebel’ was coined by Australian-born social philosopher, Roman Krznaric and is someone who works towards intergenerational justice. Meaning every decision they make today considers how it’ll impact future generations – hundreds of years from now. It’s about rebelling against “business as using” by embracing long-term, multi-generational thinking – all to benefit our children’s children’s children.  ..read more

This is the 6th year in the row of the Home Harvest edible garden trail and it shows. The conversation around urban food production and food security has more traction and is more normalised more than ever. It wasn’t too many years ago when people would look at me “funny” when I explained my work ..read more

Living in a city with around 250,000 people, you don’t necessarily think you’re going to be existing alongside a population of platypus in numerous creek lines that run in and around the city. But here in Nipaluna/Hobart, that’s exactly the case. Over the years I’ve got used to seeing this gloriously unique and strange creature ..read more

After many years of dreaming, scheming and then Anton having time to actually build it – the greenhouse of our dreams has arrived into our garden and we are in love. We’d always earmarked this spot for our eventual greenhouse but lacked the time and resources to make it happen. So for the past 5 ..read more

Hello there… There’s so much I want to tell you about what I’ve been up to for the past month or so. I want to tell you about the incredible people in Townsville Council I got to work alongside for their biannual Eco fiesta (they dressed me as the flower above – made by local, Lyn) and who are the heart of their community. I love these people, they make good things happen and they do so much more than their job requires because their hearts are leading the way – pointing them in the right direction. While I was in Townsville I also met wonder woman, Helene who runs The Ecosophy Garde ..read more

The Flower Power Project came from my friend Nadia Danti’s head and heart (she’s the angel above and below right). She was like “hey Hannah, I know we’re all really busy but you wanna use some of our backyards and grow heaps of flowers to give away for free to people doing good work in our local community as a way of saying thanks?”
Me…. “Ken-oath I do’.
And so we did. Last winter we put a call out for dahlia tuber donations and we’re happily inundated. We then proceeded to plant them in in spring across a few different urban gardens and a corner of a market garden quietly growing pure love ..read more

As we wrap up our fifth Home Harvest edible garden trail, it’s always good to pause and take a moment to reflect on the greatness that just was. Cause it was really great. I’ve organised countless community events and projects over the decades and I reckon this is one of the most successful. Why? Good question….

People. Turn. Up: When events book as quickly as this one does it’s direct and undeniable feedback that you’re helping to meet a strong community need. In this case people wanna see urban back/front yards growing edible produce and they wanna learn how they could do ..read more

2023 was a particularly hard year for my little family. There were numerous work and personal stresses which just kept piling up. My partner (Anton) and I kept saying to each other – it’s going to get easier, surely nothing else challenging is going to happen. But 2023 was relentlessly hard for us on all levels. And then in late October, shortly before my second book came out and I embarked on a hefty national book tour, Anton broke his hip (skateboarding) and needed emergency surgery to pin it all back together.
Turns out that breaking your hip is quite bad. As in you can’t walk for three mon ..read more

We’re happy to announce we’re working with Eat Well Tasmania and Sustainable Living Tasmania to hold our fifth annual “Home Harvest” garden tour in the nipaluna/Hobart region! Special thanks to the City of Hobart for funding this great initiative.
Home Harvest is going to be a one day event on Sunday March 16th, 2024 in and around nipaluna/Hobart where productive gardens open their gates to invite the public in to have a look – best day ever right?! The main aim is that people are inspired to start (or continue) to grow their own food to increase local resil ..read more
