At long last April! As much as the rain was appreciated and needed, we are so very happy to look forward to longer days, warmer weather, and plenty of sunny spring days in Ventura! In this month’s residents’ newsletter, we feature Townehouse resident, author and artist Karen Wu. Karen will display some of her art and books in the lobby on Thursday, April 11 at 2 PM. Introducing Virginia “Ginnie” Jessup

Although Ginnie was born in Oakland, CA, during and after the World War II years, she lived in Washington, DC and New Haven, CT while her dad made training films for the Navy and later the State Department. Ginnie met her first husband while attending UC Davis. He became a Navy pilot, so their first years of marriage were spent in Pensacola, FL. They eventually returned to California and raised citrus trees and four daughters near Visalia. Ellie has lived at the Townehouse for over 15 years! She celebrates her 100th birthday in July. When I asked Ellie what’s the secret to looking so well? She said daily exercise and good food. Being creative and exploring new things are also Ellie’s secret, to a good life. Ellie has always had an interest in the Arts. She belonged to the Fine Arts Society of Santa Barbara. When she moved to San Diego, she initiated an International folk-dance group and taught dance at the Greek Orthodox church with her husband for many years. Spring is just around the corner! Rain, rain, and more rain last month means spring in Ventura is going to be positively beautiful! The hills are already green as emeralds and buds are forming on trees as the bulbs begin to push up from the rain drenched soil. It’s also the month of luck with St. Patrick’s day on the horizon! George grew up in Brooklyn, New York, and joined the Air Force where he was stationed on Cape Cod. Ellie was born and raised in Woburn, Massachusetts. Between her sophomore year and junior years of college Ellie worked on Cape Cod. Then due to a strange parking brake, Ellie met George. Two years later, they were married. The month of love! We love the month of February at the Ventura Townehouse. Love is all around us in the way the days begin to grow longer, promising spring is just around the corner. We have the Chinese New Year to look forward to – this year we enter the Year of the Dragon on February 9.
