While homeschooling my daughter, one of my favorite, FAVORITE perks of homeschooling was playing games.  My daughter probably thought she was getting away with murder; however, I totally fooled her! Come closer and I’ll tell you why…. Are you listening? Game Play – A Fun Way to Learn Children learn from playing games! Really… They do. I remember that homeschooling parents used to say to me, they would love to play games more, but it is so hard to squeeze it into an already busy day. I looked at these parents like they were CRAZY. Playing games taught my daughter all different types of uni ..read more

Yes, I was one of those homeschooling parents.  We were a middle-class family with bills that are always coming in.  We were financially fine; however, if I didn’t work – we would not make ends meet.  If I was to homeschool my daughter, I had to earn a minimum amount of money a month plus whatever money I needed to homeschool her.  And yes, I did this. And yes, in today’s world of the internet it is even easier. Yes, it is POSSIBLE to both work and homeschool. Making It Work First, it was decided by accident, when our now, 22-year-old, was 4.5. years old, that we would home ..read more

“Don’t be in such a hurry to grow up.” This saying is one we have all heard before.  It is one that we used with our children when they were preschool and even kindergarten age; however, it seems when it comes to high school students earning college credits, we have forgotten what this saying implies. If you surveyed the average high school junior or senior right now and asked them how many college credits they’ve earned already, you’d be hard pressed to find someone who answers “zero.” As a matter of fact, you’d probably be quite surprised to hear many students brag about having 12, 18 ..read more

When a parent decides to homeschool their child, their education and academic growth is completely a parent’s responsibility. A parent has to give their complete attention to understand their child’s learning needs. They not only need to understand the child’s learning abilities but also their hobbies and interests too. In school, the subjects are fixed. They have to study the subjects that are assigned for their specific academic year. There is no option to select subjects according to the student’s strength. Homeschooling is letting a child learn according to his ability to learn. Homeschool ..read more

Should my homeschooler take an AP course, or opt for dual enrollment? What is the better option? In recent years, it has become very popular among homeschooling parents to use the dual enrollment option for their high-school age learners. Some states even offer free enrollment at local community/junior colleges for high-school (and younger) participants. The obvious benefit is that taking (and passing) a dual enrollment course gives the student credit that can be counted towards their college degree. Earning credits via dual enrollment may also result in less time needed to graduate (with the ..read more

What is Homeschooling? Homeschooling is a fast-growing movement giving parents control of their child’s education in a “permissionless” way.  Children have always been homeschooled; however, the “modern” homeschooling movement began growing in the 1970s when John Holt, along with Dorothy and Raymond Moore, started writing about educational reform, suggesting homeschooling as an alternative educational option.  Today, according to the United States Census Bureau (USCB) Household Pulse Survey, the number of parents choosing to homeschool grew to at least 5,000,000 during the 2022 – 202 ..read more

Homeschooling With Multiple Intelligences In Mind

Professor Howard Gardner, of Harvard University. penned the theory back in the early-mid 1980’s that the traditional notion of intelligence (such as what is captured via IQ tests) is too limited in scope – and that there are, in fact, multiple types of intelligence. For a homeschooler, this can mean that your learners may have all have specific strengths and weaknesses which can be accessible through varied instruction. Identifying the various intelligence types: Visual-spatial: Learners who are intelligent in this area are very good at understanding their environment and how to approach it v ..read more
