I was so excited to finally get my hands on The Difference Between Someday and Forever. I had big expectations for the conclusion of the gripping Difference Trilogy. Perhaps too big. The second book ends on a heart-stopping cliffhanger, and the story picks up moments after. The situation is resolved very quickly, which leaves the rest of the book to find reasons for Remi and Bowen to not be together. I understand why Remi would feel betrayed by the lies Bowen, her friends, and family fed her. Her journey of self-discovery seems a little extreme, though. She lost 9 months of memories, not her e ..read more

Review: Totally Folked by Penny Reid

Totally Folked is the first book in the Good Folk: Modern Folktales series, and it took me completely by surprise in the best possible way. The first book in a series usually sets the tone, and Totally Folked is far more entertaining than I expected. This is a fully character-driven story. That’s not to say the plot is uninteresting; it’s just that all the characters are so amazing that I was more interested in their personal development and interactions than any major drama or plot twists — of which there is none, thankfully.  Raquel Ezra is a lonely A-list Hollywood superstar facing a q ..read more

Review: A Little Too Late by Sarina Bowen

Someone, please book me a trip to Madigan Mountain, STAT! I don’t even ski, but A Little Too Late has me envisioning a vacation on a snowy mountain ski resort, snowboarding down the bunny slope, a big mug of hot chocolate with marshmallows cupped in my hands, and a soak in a glorious hot tub at the end of the day. I feel like I became part of Madigan Mountain, and I’m homesick now.  I was charmed by Reed Madigan and Ava Aicher’s romance, but it may not be for you. Absolutely do not read A Little Too Late if you think you’ll dislike: A sweet but passionate college romance A scorned woman w ..read more

Review: Rifts & Refrains by Devney Perry

Rifts and Refrains is the second book in the Hush Note trilogy about a famous rock band. Each book is written by a different author and centers around a different band member. Rifts and Refrains is the story of Quinn, Hush Note’s drummer, and Devney Perry does an excellent job of giving us a second chance rock star romance in a small town setting. There’s that saying that you can’t go home again, and when Quinn returns to her small hometown for a funeral after a nine-year absence, that certainly seems true. The cold reception and animosity she receives from her family, as well as from her firs ..read more

Audiobook Review: Code Name: Genesis by Sawyer Bennett

I really liked this second-chance bodyguard romance, but the audiobook narration for Code Name: Genesis took my enjoyment to the next level. The story strikes a good balance between danger and romance. Kynan is the head of a security firm and Joclyn is the famous singer/actress/ex-girlfriend he is hired to protect from a stalker. Things ended badly between them, but Kynan is an inexcusable tool towards her in the beginning of the book. He can be quick to judge, but once Kynan has time to cool off, he thinks logically. Joclyn was 19 when they first met, and even though it has been ove ..read more

Review: It Starts With Us by Colleen Hoover

It Starts With Us is Colleen Hoover’s love letter to fans of her wildly popular book, It Ends With Us. She heard the cries of readers who begged to know all the details of Lily and Atlas’s happily ever after, and she answered their calls for a follow-up in spectacular fashion. It Starts With Us picks up immediately after the end of the previous book, and the mood is so much lighter. We see Lily struggle to pursue her own happiness while taking Ryle’s feelings and sometimes volatile moods into consideration. Even with those challenges, Lily is stronger than ever, and I think it’s wonderful that ..read more

Thank goodness. A romance for grown folks—and a poignant, steamy one at that! Before I Let Go is an emotional look at a marriage burned to the ground and two people determined to rise from the ashes to find happiness again. Yasmen and Josiah have the enduring type of love that would make anyone jealous. Theirs is not a connection based solely on physical attraction; although, there is some seriously hot magnetism between them. They share a mutual respect, despite the pain they inflicted on one another. I respected both of them tremendously. The fallout from divorce affects family members in di ..read more

Audiobook Review: Say You Want Me by Corinne Michaels

Say You Want Me was a perfectly fine, middle of the road read for me.  You need to be in the mood to escape in order to enjoy this story because some of it is unrealistic. In a heartbeat, Wyatt goes from being adamant that he’s not the father of Angie’s baby to wanting to marry her. I thought Angie’s rules about not having sex and no kissing were rather silly. Wyatt knocked her up, for goodness sakes, so they are obviously attracted to each other. Once they cleared up a previous misunderstanding, it seemed pointless to abstain from a physical relationship. Some of the lines are a little c ..read more
