Nerves ran high on April 26 as six Wildcat Chronicle staffers’ completed at a state level in Bloomington-Normal, Illinois. Sebastian Alacron placed fourth in radio news, Dhanveer Gill placed fourth in editorial writing, and Sasha Baumgartner took sixth in news writing. All three are seniors, and students in the Journalism Production class at West Chicago Community High School. The Wildcats are coming into the series opener after sweeping their last two opponents (Streamwood and Elgin). In the first game against the Maroons, sophomore Ashton Aldaco threw a no-hitter in a five-inning mercy rule win (10-0). The Fenton Bison are – so far – winless this season after finishing eighth in the Upstate Eight last year. Earlier this month, FCCLA underwent a three-day trip to Springfield to compete in the state championship, under the guidance of teachers Brittney Bauer and Emily Renteria. During the three-day trip that took place between April 11-13, students separately attended competitions, which lasted about four hours.
