Tom Unbelieving – The Harvest

I couldn’t but not hear Frightened Rabbit on ‘The Harvest’, a folk quality that is both endearing and affecting. A bit of an off-kilter Divine Comedy to proceedings too so Tom Unbelieving have a feeling of coming from another time altogether. The mood is one of romance but also of dreamy elegance so the piece is rather out of step of contemporary times. And all the more welcome for it because we need to have an oasis here and there to take our mind off the endless switched-on for the next distraction. The psychedelic element just sealed the deal for me. KH The Harvest by Tom Unbelieving mp3hu ..read more

Utah Carol – Sugar Cane

I felt a Christmas song coming on, a woozy variety of the species but how wrong I was because that was just Utah Carol Music teasing us and instead landing us square into a track that is ever so psychedelically folk inclined. The best thing of course is that there is a pretty great harmony in tow, reminded me Mercury Rev back in their peak turn of the century days circa ‘Deserter Songs’. Hints of the Harvest Ministers too so ‘Sugar Cane’ was always going to be able to run slow riot with our affections. KH mp3hugger’s best new music in our Fresh Indie playlist! Daena Weeks – Shedding Layers

A quiet ambience to matters as ‘Shedding Layers’ makes its quiet presence known, a trance in the exotic playing in fact but the real clarity comes from a singer who matches and even surpasses the easy mood in the instrumental swells. Reminded me of Massive Attack at times, but truly Daena Weeks is out on her own and ‘Shedding Layers’ makes like such a refreshing listen because it is meditative and restorative with a psychedelic dimension that winds up the build with a precious subtlety. Gobsmacked. KH mp3hugger’s best new music in our Fresh Indie playlist! More Info: Official Hear More Songs ..read more

The Electric Arch – Transients

The Electric Arch have a lovely way about them, they do seem like dreamers of the kind we used to hear in Mercury Rev (and to a lesser extend Bowie) and so ‘Transients’ completely got off on the right foot. And it only went one way after that because the psychedelic mannerisms show an act who are fleet of foot and capable of creating an atmosphere that has plenty of wonder about it. Almost lullaby in tone it gets us back on the correct path because it knows not of borders or restrictions. A beautiful few minutes. KH mp3hugger’s best new music in our Fresh Indie playlist! Takeshi’s Cashew & Aloa Input – 42 Something

In between flitting off to exotic locations ’42 Something’ gave us more than a little reminder about why we loved Stereolab in the first place, with a bit of Belle & Sebastian thrown in for good measure. Of course this Austrian collective do have their own angle and it is an impressive one as it offers up a soft motorik of propulsion and gently issued words. If it is spacey tones, bleeps from way out in alien country and wood flutes you are after then this track will have you sated. The crowning achievement is the singing for me though, adding a folky resonance to all that futuristic soun ..read more
