Edmonton Oilers fourth line steps up but the big guns don’t as the Dallas Stars ties the series 1–1

Coming into the Western Conference Finals, a big topic was how the Dallas Stars’ forward depth dwarfed the Edmonton Oilers’ and was looked at as what could be the difference maker. This is especially the case given the main trade deadline acquisition Adam Henrique has been out with an injury. Game 2 saw the Oilers fourth line step up, with Connor Brown scoring the first Oilers goal just 44 seconds after Dallas took the initial lead. Fourth liners stepping up Perhaps the players on that fourth line saw that Henrique is nearing a return, and know that it is more likely than not that it would be ..read more

Oilers Visual Recap R3G2: Dallas takes Game 2 with Edmonton’s stars held pointless

The Edmonton Oilers were looking to build on their Game 1 victory and try to steal both away games to open the Western Conference Final. The Dallas Stars had other plans however as they instead tied the series up. Edmonton was held to just one goal—the last time they scored just once, they won in the Game 4 shutout over the Kings. This time around, it wasn’t enough as Dallas got more pucks past the goal line. The Oilers’ only goal came from their depth as Connor Brown answered back to tie the game, but the usual scoring suspects were all held pointless including Leon Draisaitl—whose 13-game po ..read more

Game 1 showed us that this second round matchup between the Edmonton Oilers and Dallas Stars is a going to be a tight, closely matched, and hard-fought series. The Oilers earned a massive victory on the road in double overtime, and now the pressure shifts to Dallas. Many were picking the Stars to come out ahead in Game 1, but the Oilers jumped out to a multi-goal lead, and closed things out in overtime. The Stars had home ice advantage and were able to ice the matchups they wanted to, but still couldn’t win. Here’s how they chose to counter the Oilers with that advantage, and what they’ll like ..read more

The Oil Rig

A lot of conversation is being had amongst Canadian hockey fans as to which team they should cheer for in the 2024 conference finals and beyond. Outside of Edmonton, opinions are mixed, but that shouldn’t be the case. By all accounts, the Edmonton Oilers should be, and are, Canada’s team in the 2024 NHL playoffs. Geography We can get this one out of the way. The Oilers are geographically located in Canada, and they’re the only team left out of the seven Canadian franchise. Easy. Roster Breakdown The Oilers’ roster is primarily composed of Canadians, and significantly more so than any other tea ..read more

The Edmonton Oilers defeat the Dallas Stars in double overtime

The first game of the series has gone to the Edmonton Oilers and this game was absolutely huge. The Oilers went into this game hearing about how they weren’t deep enough and goaltending was a big question mark, but they turned the tables and took a huge road win. They showed tonight that they can win against the Dallas Stars, and if they can win one then they can win four. That belief goes a long way in the locker room and what was just a belief before last night has turned into a reality. The first star of the night In reality, he wasn’t given any stars of the game, but one guy on the Oilers ..read more

The Edmonton Oilers and Dallas Stars kicked off the Western Conference Final with a bit of a marathon. The Oilers got up ahead by two goals early in the second period, but the Stars came back with Tyler Seguin netting two markers himself—including a late third period goal—to bring the game to overtime. Edmonton survived a lengthy double minor in the first overtime period with Connor McDavid being the culprit. The frame ended out with both teams still tied but McDavid went ahead and finished up the game early in the second overtime period to give Edmonton the Game 1 victory! Charts from the big ..read more

The Edmonton Oilers entered the third period of Game 7 against the Vancouver Canucks with a seemingly safe lead. They had dominated Vancouver up to that point, winning 3–0 and outshooting the Canucks 27-12 through two periods. But then the notorious turtle happened. The Canucks came out flying in the third period. Something that could and should have been expected from a team that has made multiple multi-goal late comebacks and scoring late game winning goals already this postseason. And the response of the Oilers was to do very little of what had helped them thoroughly dominate the first two ..read more
