The well-chosen support act for tonight are Simple Minds’ fellow countrymen, Del Amitri. Considering how early the band take to the stage, the arena is already nearing capacity evidencing the draw that the band deservedly have. Del Amitri begin the proceedings with one of their biggest hits, Always The Last To Know , a song about the dynamics of a deceptive relationship. The 90s guitar riff and keyboard melody resonate throughout the arena and have many people standing in appreciation, something that does not wane during their concise ten song set. Justin Currie’s soulful vocals flow seamlessl ..read more

Yard Act @ HMV Vault, Birmingham

Yard Act have just embarked on a wide-ranging tour to promote their new album Where’s My Utopia. Warming up for this they played several in-store gigs including an appearance at the HMV Birmingham Vault . In-stores tend to be strange affairs. This one was no different. The Vault is a new location in Dale End and I was struggling to remember what was in the building before HMV came along. As Yard Act singer James Smith mentioned this has to be the biggest HMV he, or any of us, has been in. Imagine the area of a football pitch filled with records, cds, books and a whole host of incongruous items ..read more

Yard Act – Where’s My Utopia
Birmingham Live
by Ian.Gelling

“Why the fuck would I worry about what wankers think about album two?” shouts Yard Act‘s James Smith at the end of Blackpool Illuminations.  Ironically, the penultimate tune on Where’s My Utopia is closer to the content of “album one” than anything else on this album. This long account of a childhood visit to the seaside flipped onto a present-day parental epiphany is typical stream of consciousness stuff. James seems to be saying that he has hit his peak with his wife and child. Maybe he’s struggling to come to terms with fame, maybe he is just happy, but if the transition from album one ..read more

On Wednesday, Birmingham witnessed Hozier‘s grandest performance so far in the city at the Resorts World Arena, following a more intimate tour earlier this year, before the release of his newest album Unreal Unearth. As the eager crowd filled the vast space, the venue transformed into a cathedral of sound. Each song painted a canvas of love, hope, and tragedy, interwoven with strong political messages and melodic storytelling, a testament to Hozier’s ability to encapsulate life’s complexities through beautiful poetry. It was surreal to witness Hozier’s anthemic songs, crafted for the big stag ..read more
